Leighton Meester Shares Self-Care Gem That Helps Shed Her “Alien Skin”

The former Gossip Girl star shared details about her skincare routine, and revealed a single product that has significantly improved her skin’s feel over time.

Leighton Meester, 39, shared her love for exfoliating mitts in a recent interview with Marie Claire. She especially enjoys spa days at the Olympic Day Spa in Los Angeles, a Korean spa with both co-ed and women-only areas. She remembers feeling completely new to the experience the first time she went, saying, ‘What is this?’

The singer of ‘Somebody to Love,’ who shares a 10-year-old daughter named Arlo and a 5-year-old son with husband Adam Brody, described feeling ‘like an alien coming to Earth’ when she first used the exfoliating mitt. She explained that the experience felt like she needed to ‘shed her alien skin,’ which she found amazing. She now buys similar mitts for home use, but is much more gentle on herself when exfoliating compared to the spa treatment.

I’ve noticed Leighton’s really gotten into using a scrubbing glove as part of her shower routine lately. It’s become a must-do, especially when she has a date night planned with her husband – she loves layering fragrances for those evenings!

She mentioned enjoying having a signature perfume, and currently loves Elizabeth Arden’s Eternal Aura, which she wears often. She describes it as a romantic and uplifting scent, perfect for date nights. The couple, married since 2014, often display a playful side in public, like their memorable encounter with Ariana Grande at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards. Leighton happily smiled when Grande told her, “I love you. Wow, wow, wow.”

When Leighton and her husband, Adam, aren’t attending glamorous events, she often talks about how their relationship began. They were friends first, but Leighton was initially unsure about becoming more than friends with him.

She recently shared with Penn Badgley on his podcast, Podcrushed, that she often misread early signs in relationships. She’d think someone was interested in a friend, only to later realize it was her future husband all along. Looking back, she wonders why she dated other people first, admitting those choices seem wrong in retrospect, but she playfully questions if they were necessary at the time.

But despite their slow start, Leighton is confident she found her lifelong partner. 

“He’s perfect,” she said confidently. “I truly believe he’d be a great match for many people – he’s just a genuinely kind and wonderful person.”

Leighton Meester and Adam Brody showed some sweet PDA while heading to a Mexican restaurant in 2013.

Despite ongoing speculation about a possible romance, the two remained tight-lipped about their relationship. However, a recent photo seemed to speak volumes.

Brody previously shared that becoming a father is “the best in every way.”

In their spare time, this couple enjoys giving back to their community.

Having previously worked together on the 2011 film The Oranges, the actors reunited in 2019 on the set of Tami Sagher’s show, Single Parents. Brody guest-starred as the ex-boyfriend of Sagher’s character.

Although the couple hadn’t publicly shared that they were expecting another baby, Brody confirmed in September 2020 that Meester had given birth to their second child.
