The Marathon update is being very well-received on platforms like the PlayStation Store, showing that players are enjoying Bungie’s latest game.
Currently, the game has a very positive rating of 4.77 out of 5 on the Sony store, based on 3,000 reviews. In comparison, another similar game, Highguard, which is struggling, has a much lower rating of 3.1, though it has been reviewed by a larger number of players – around 14,000.
The extraction shooter is receiving ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam, while Highguard has ‘Mixed’ reviews.
Many of you probably remember that Concord wasn’t well-received. This new approach gives Marathon a much better starting point.
Ultimately, the game’s success will depend on how many players continue playing it, and it’s too soon to know how well it will do in the long run. On its first day, the game had a peak of 88,000 players on Steam, but that number dropped to around 30,000 overnight. We don’t yet have player numbers for PlayStation or Xbox.
The game has begun solidly, though not spectacularly. We’ll get a clearer picture of its long-term success over the weekend and in the months ahead.
We’re waiting to publish our full review until the game’s Cryo Archive mode comes out later this month. We’re excited to share our complete impressions once we’ve had a chance to experience everything it offers.
