Resident Evil Requiem feels like a celebration of the entire Resident Evil series. Although some beloved characters are absent, the game is filled with nods to past games, featuring familiar enemies, puzzles, and even a poignant revisit to Raccoon City. And Leon isn’t the only character players will recognize.
Two lesser-known characters have made surprisingly fantastic appearances in the game, becoming popular with fans over time. Their roles as smaller figures fit perfectly within the story, and players have been eagerly anticipating a showdown with them. Here’s a look at these two great character cameos in Resident Evil Requiem and why they work so well.
Sherry Birkin Is Still Working With Leon

Sherry Birkin has evolved from a minor character into a significant supporting figure, particularly for Leon Kennedy, most recently in Resident Evil Requiem. She first appeared in Resident Evil 2 as a young girl rescued by Claire Redfield and Leon from the Raccoon City police department. As the daughter of Umbrella scientists, she initially served as a key motivation for the heroes’ actions. By Resident Evil 6, Sherry had become a BSAA agent and played a more substantial role, especially alongside Jake Muller. This marked the first time she was a playable character, sharing the focus with other familiar faces like Leon and Chris Redfield. While she made brief appearances in games like Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, those were more like quick cameos.
Sherry’s appearance in Resident Evil: Requiem shows she’s still working with Leon and the other heroes to fight biological threats, though now she provides support rather than being directly in the action. Her presence helps Leon deal with his past trauma by offering context and reminding players how much the series has evolved – Sherry, once a child needing rescue, is now a capable ally. Bringing Sherry back also allows the game to focus on Leon’s story without being sidetracked by another familiar character becoming infected, reinforcing the franchise’s history. Interestingly, Sherry provides a good contrast to Grace, as both are analytical characters unexpectedly caught up in a dangerous situation.
How Resident Evil Quietly Brought Back HUNK

Longtime fans of Resident Evil are especially excited about a possible return that isn’t officially confirmed, but strongly hinted at. In Requiem, one of the most memorable boss fights features Leon battling a masked Umbrella commander who is widely believed to be HUNK. HUNK first appeared as a secret playable character in Resident Evil 2. Players could unlock him after completing both Leon and Claire’s campaigns with an A rank, allowing them to play as HUNK in a mission called “The 4th Survivor,” where he fought his way through Raccoon City PD. HUNK stood out from typical Umbrella enemies thanks to his impressive combat skills and brutal efficiency. While he’s made brief appearances and been playable in The Mercenaries, he hasn’t had a significant role in the main Resident Evil storylines – until now, potentially.
As a long-time Resident Evil fan, I always loved HUNK, so I was really excited to see a character in Resident Evil: Requiem who seemed to be him! Late in the game, Leon fights this commando who looks and sounds just like HUNK, and even seems to be suffering from the same issues as Leon – like they both survived the Raccoon City outbreak. It was awesome seeing him use some of HUNK’s signature moves against Leon, like that neck snap! Honestly, it made sense why this commando would want to fight Leon himself instead of just finishing him off – it’s totally something HUNK would do. So, when Leon defeated him, I was shocked! It felt like a fitting end for such a popular character… but then players noticed the body disappears after the fight! That definitely makes me think HUNK isn’t really gone, and we might see him back for revenge someday. It’s a great tease and keeps the hope alive!
