Netflix’s One Piece Live-Action Makes a Huge Straw Hat Change in Season 2

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga. Following the success of the One Piece live-action Season 1 on Netflix in 2023, a second season will premiere on March 10th, 2026. Season 2, titled One Piece: Into the Grand Line, will continue the story of the Straw Hat Pirates as they sail into the dangerous waters known as the Grand Line – a place often called the pirates’ graveyard. The first season ended with the Arlong Park Arc, where Nami joined the crew as their navigator, and they set off for the Grand Line. Season 2 will take the Straw Hats to Loguetown and begin their journey into the Grand Line, while also laying the groundwork for the Alabasta Arc. The Alabasta Arc will then be completed in Season 3, finishing the second major story arc of the series.

With Season 2 of the live-action series coming soon, Netflix has given fans a first glimpse of Brook, the popular musician from the Straw Hat Pirates. Actor Martial T. Batchamen will portray this important member of Luffy’s crew. Unlike the original manga, where Brook appears later, the series will introduce him earlier through a flashback. This flashback will focus on the Rumbar Pirates and their connection to Laboon, a massive whale, as the show adapts the Reverse Mountain Arc.

Brook Will Officially Make His Debut in Netflix’s One Piece Season 2

The Rumbar Pirates will appear in the story just before the Straw Hats enter the Grand Line. This pirate crew traveled through Reverse Mountain fifty years earlier at the start of their own adventure, and one of its members, Brook, eventually joined Luffy’s crew. We first meet Brook in the Thriller Bark Arc, where we learn the sad story of the Rumbar Pirates and why Brook couldn’t fulfill a promise he made to Laboon.

Brook’s entire crew perished at sea, but he survived thanks to the power of his Revive-Revive Fruit. Unfortunately, the attack happened in dense fog, and it took his spirit two full years to locate his skeletal body. Even now, fifty years later, his friend Laboon still waits for his crew’s return, not knowing what happened to them. As the sole survivor, Brook joins Luffy’s crew with the hope of one day finding Laboon and reuniting with his lost friends.

The second season will initially present Brook in a surprising way, though it won’t immediately show his skeletal form or fully explain his backstory. This early appearance is logical, as a flashback detailing his history is key to understanding Laboon’s story – a story that wasn’t fully explored until later in the original series.
