Fantasy lovers have had a lot to enjoy lately, with the success of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms breathing new life into Game of Thrones. And the good news keeps coming – there are many promising fantasy shows scheduled to be released in the months ahead.
Fans can look forward to the return of popular shows like House of the Dragon season 3 and One Piece’s second season. Plus, several new series are coming soon, including a gritty detective story featuring Green Lantern and a historical drama based on the God of War universe set in the Norse era.
Maul: Shadow Lord
Following the conclusion of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Maul: Shadow Lord continues the story of Darth Maul, first introduced in The Phantom Menace, as he struggles to survive under the new Galactic Empire. It will be compelling to watch Maul deal with a harsh regime led by his old master. The show boasts a talented voice cast, including returning actor Sam Witwer, along with Gideon Adlon, Richard Ayoade, and Oscar nominee Wagner Moura.
The show will have 10 episodes, with Disney+ releasing two new ones each week starting April 6th and continuing through May 4th – also known as Star Wars Day.
The Vampire Lestat
The show formerly known as Interview with the Vampire will now be called The Vampire Lestat for its third season. This change is part of AMC’s larger strategy to build a franchise similar to The Walking Dead using the 18 novels by Anne Rice that they purchased in 2020. The adaptation has successfully highlighted the LGBTQ+ themes present in Rice’s work, and has been an exciting watch so far. Season 3 is scheduled to premiere this summer.
Spider-Noir
If you enjoyed Nicolas Cage’s performance as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, you’re in for something special! He’s returning to the role in a new live-action series on Prime Video. It won’t be the exact same version, but he’s bringing back that same tough, classic detective take on the character—and from what we’ve seen, he’s really leaning into the over-the-top style he’s known for.
The animated series Spider-Noir reimagines Spider-Man as a detective in a gritty, 1930s New York City filled with crime. The show has a classic, hard-boiled feel. When it releases on Prime Video, you can choose to watch each episode in either a vintage, black-and-white style or a vibrant, colorful Golden Age look.
Human Vapor
Okay, so I just heard some awesome news! Yeon Sang-ho, the director of Train to Busan, is tackling a new project – a Netflix series based on this older Japanese film called The Human Vapor. It’s about a guy who turns into… well, a gas! Seriously, he becomes this vaporous being and decides to use his powers, not for good, but to pull off crimes and basically look out for number one. Apparently, Yeon’s version is going to be a really fresh and realistic take on the whole superhero thing, which I’m totally excited about.
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85
After five seasons and ten years, Stranger Things has come to an end, but the story isn’t over yet. Netflix is already planning spin-offs, starting with an animated series called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.
I’m so excited for Tales from ’85! It’s going to feel like watching a classic ’80s cartoon, and it’s set right between seasons 2 and 3. They’ve got a new cast playing the main characters, but don’t worry – we’ll still see all the people we love battling monsters and trying to solve a brand new spooky mystery. I can’t wait!
VisionQuest

Marvel’s move into streaming TV has had mixed results, but two shows have really stood out: WandaVision, a surprisingly intimate and charming series inspired by classic sitcoms, and its energetic sequel, Agatha All Along. Now, Marvel is developing VisionQuest, which will conclude this connected storyline.
I’m really excited about VisionQuest – it’s bringing back Paul Bettany as Vision and James Spader as Ultron! From what I’ve heard, it could be Marvel really digging into the dangers of artificial intelligence, which is a fascinating idea. Honestly, it reminds me a bit of Secret Invasion – we all thought that might not work, but it ended up being fantastic. So far, these three shows have a pattern: they sound risky, but they’ve all turned out to be surprisingly good, and I have high hopes for this one.
Daemons Of The Shadow Realm
The popular manga series Daemons of the Shadow Realm by Hiromu Arakawa is getting an anime adaptation! The story is set in a world where people can control supernatural creatures called Daemons, and it centers around twin siblings who were separated and are trying to reunite. The anime will begin streaming on Crunchyroll on April 4th.
Carrie
Following his adaptations of Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, Mike Flanagan is now working on a miniseries based on Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie. He’s also already confirmed he’ll adapt The Mist after this project.
Though not a particularly long story, Stephen King’s Carrie includes sections written as letters that would be difficult to film. Despite this, it was perfectly suited for a movie adaptation, and Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version is widely considered one of the greatest horror movies of all time – and remains arguably the best adaptation of King’s work.
I’m skeptical about Flanagan’s new Carrie series – it feels like a challenging story to tell in a limited series. However, given his successful track record with adapting Stephen King’s work – he’s nailed it three times already – and his current popularity in Hollywood, I’m willing to be surprised. He has the creative freedom to pursue any project he chooses, so his dedication to Carrie suggests he has a compelling and unique approach.
God Of War
The upcoming Amazon TV series based on the God of War games is being filmed, and the first photos from the set have been revealed. It appears the show is relying heavily on practical effects – real sets, costumes, and makeup – rather than computer-generated imagery. A recent photo of Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus shows the actors in full costume on a physical set, without any obvious digital enhancements.
Adapting the God of War games, which are set in Norse mythology, might seem ambitious, but it has the potential to be as popular as HBO’s The Last of Us. Like that show, God of War centers on a powerful and emotional story about a parent and child. With Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica veteran Ronald D. Moore leading the project, the series is likely to be excellent.
Lanterns
A new DC Universe project from James Gunn is Lanterns, a Green Lantern series planned as a dark and realistic police drama, similar to True Detective. While the Green Lanterns are usually depicted as an interstellar police force traveling the galaxy, setting the show as a murder mystery in Nebraska feels like a departure from the source material.
James Gunn has consistently made smart choices with the new DC Universe so far. He clearly understands DC Comics, so when he approves a project, it’s likely to be a fresh and compelling take on the original stories. Plus, HBO, known for critically acclaimed shows like The Sopranos and The Wire, is a reliable source for high-quality television.
