Okay, let me tell you about the Justice Society. These guys aren’t just another superhero team – they’re the original. Seriously, they’ve been around forever and have battled some of the biggest, baddest villains you can imagine, even threats that spanned entire universes. We’re talking about legends who’ve joined their ranks, heroes who are truly resilient. But what I really love about the JSA is their commitment to the future. They’re all about passing the torch, mentoring the next generation, and making sure those young heroes understand the weight – and the honor – of carrying on their legacy. They don’t just fight for the superhero world, they are its history.
For decades, the Justice Society of America has been home to some incredibly resilient heroes. Whether they’ve been battling villains for years or are newly empowered, all its members possess a remarkable strength and durability. Here are ten of the toughest heroes the Justice Society has ever seen – the most enduring champions across many generations.
10) Mister Terrific II

Mister Terrific II is considered one of the Justice Society‘s most powerful and influential members. Originally an Olympic athlete and highly educated with multiple doctorate degrees, he turned to crimefighting after a personal tragedy. He’s become the JSA’s strategic powerhouse, often compared to Batman. Known for his incredible physical and mental fortitude, he consistently pushes himself to overcome any challenge. He’s now effectively leading the Justice League, consistently outmaneuvering even the most dangerous enemies across realities.
9) Jay Garrick

Jay Garrick is a legendary hero in the DC Universe, inspiring countless speedsters and heroes over the years. While he’s not as strong as he used to be and has to work harder to keep up with newer, faster Flashes, he never gives up. Jay is a selfless protector, always willing to put himself on the line for others. He’s a resilient and cheerful man who has faced incredible hardship without losing his spirit. Though he may not have the same raw power as some, he more than makes up for it with his courage and determination.
8) Damage

Damage is the son of the Golden Age hero Atom, but he didn’t immediately become a member of the Justice Society. He possesses incredible strength, resilience, and can unleash powerful energy blasts thanks to the volatile energy within his body. He first gained recognition with the Freedom Fighters, where he almost lost his life fighting villains. This experience left him heavily scarred, and he eventually joined the Justice Society. While already incredibly durable, surviving a brutal attack by Zoom made him even stronger, particularly after he dealt with the emotional trauma. He was once killed by the Black Lanterns, but has since returned, though he hasn’t played a major role since.
7) Alan Scott

Alan Scott was the very first Green Lantern on Earth and remains one of the team’s most powerful members. He’s incredibly resilient, with exceptional control over the Starheart – the mystical energy source that gives him his powers. This control has transformed him into a being of pure energy, sustained by his unwavering willpower. Because of his unique physiology, he can withstand almost any attack and has even stopped aging. Having lived much of his life concealing his sexuality, Alan is also remarkably strong mentally. He’s a true giant in the superhero world, both physically and emotionally.
6) Atom-Smasher

Man, Atom-Smasher has a really interesting backstory. He used to be Nuklon, part of this team called Infinity, Inc., which was basically the Justice Society’s younger group. It’s cool because he’s actually the godson of the original Golden Age Atom! He was trained from the start to be a hero, and he inherited powers from his grandpa, who was a villain named Cyclotron – super strength and the ability to grow to enormous sizes. Seriously, this guy is tough. He can take a beating and just keep going, and growing! He had a bit of a rocky start, some personal issues he had to work through, but ultimately he always chooses to do the right thing. Honestly, his temper sometimes makes him even more powerful – it fuels his drive. He’s a really compelling character.
5) Hawkgirl

Kendra Saunders is the current Hawkgirl, continuing the legacy of the warrior Sheira Hall through reincarnation. As the granddaughter of Golden Age hero Speed Sanders, she quickly became part of the Justice Society after discovering the Nth metal armor and weapons from her past life. Since then, Kendra has battled to control her fate, ultimately becoming the primary Hawk across the DC Multiverse and a frequent member of the Justice League. She’s consistently demonstrated incredible strength and resilience, embodying the same unwavering spirit as Sheira Hall.
4) Hawkman

Hawkman is a remarkably resilient hero with a long history – he’s lived many lives! As both Carter Hall and Katar Hol, he’s been a key member of hero teams like the Justice Society and the Justice League, consistently defending Earth and the universe, particularly the city of St. Roch. Known for his love of a good fight, Hawkman is equally devoted to his partner, Sheira Hall. He’s endured countless hardships and always finds a way to overcome them, proving his incredible toughness time and time again.
3) Black Adam

Black Adam had the potential to be a major DC hero, largely thanks to his time with the Justice Society. Initially joining as a trial member, he quickly demonstrated incredible power, proving to be one of their strongest assets. However, his tendency towards violence eventually caused friction with the team, leading him back to villainy. Later, he would eventually join the Justice League. Possessing strength comparable to Superman, he’s incredibly durable and fiercely self-confident, making him exceptionally resilient both physically and mentally. He’s virtually unbreakable and wields the power of numerous gods.
2) Shazam/The Captain

As a huge comic book movie fan, I’ve always loved Shazam – or Captain Marvel, as some of us older fans still call him! It’s a shame a lot of newer viewers don’t realize he actually used to be part of the Justice Society. But seriously, when he transforms, he’s got the full power of the wizard Shazam, and the title ‘World’s Mightiest Mortal’ isn’t just for show. This guy is incredibly durable – he can take a serious beating and just keep going. And when it comes to raw power, he can go toe-to-toe with just about anyone in the multiverse. Even though Billy Batson is just a kid, when he becomes Shazam, he’s unbelievably tough, both physically and mentally. He’s easily one of the most resilient heroes out there.
1) Power Girl

As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always thought Power Girl is seriously underrated! She’s a Kryptonian from pre-Crisis Earth-Two, and honestly, she’s one of the most powerful heroes around. She can withstand almost anything the universe throws at her, though she is vulnerable to Kryptonite – unless you can find the rare Earth-Two version, or something with the magic from that lost world. It’s always been a little unclear exactly how powerful she is, but what really defines her is her incredible determination and fiery temper. She just doesn’t give up, and very few villains have ever been able to really put her down.
