Whether or not the current RAM shortage will delay the next PlayStation and Xbox is uncertain, but it has definitely impacted Valve’s plans for new hardware. Originally announced last November, the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and new Steam Controller were expected in early 2026, but their release has now been pushed back to sometime in the first half of the year.
Valve announced in a Steamworks Development update that all three of its new products will be released this year, with more details coming as plans are finalized. The ongoing shortage of memory is still a problem, but now limited storage is also an issue, likely caused by the memory shortage.
Although it probably won’t push the release date past the first half of 2026, Valve’s careful choice of words is noticeable. It looks like the current supply issues will continue for a while, making us question whether the new Steam Hardware will actually be available this year. Only time will reveal the answer.
What’s most disappointing is the rumor that Half-Life 3 was supposed to launch alongside the new Steam Machine, potentially as early as Spring 2026. While it’s unclear if this is accurate, sources like Mike Straw from Insider-Gaming believe the long-awaited sequel is actually in development. It’s arguably one of the most anticipated games ever.
There haven’t been too many rumors lately, though, so stay tuned for updates.
