One Piece Just Unleashed a Major Upgrade for an Unexpected Straw Hat

The One Piece story is now focused on the Elbaph arc, a location with strong ties to both Usopp and the history behind Luffy’s powerful Gear Fifth form. Surprisingly, the latest power boost isn’t going to Luffy or his crew, but to an unexpected character. As Elbaph is a key part of the final storyline, many fans anticipated the Straw Hat Pirates would be the ones gaining new abilities. Recent events, including advice from Scopper Gaban to Luffy and Zoro about mastering their Conqueror’s Haki, confirm that power upgrades for them are indeed coming soon.

While the story has been progressing, many fans hoped to see Usopp finally start working towards his dream of becoming a brave warrior in the Elbaph arc, as he greatly admires the giants. Unfortunately, nothing has happened for his character so far. Instead, the most recent chapter surprisingly gave Franky, the Straw Hats’ shipwright, a significant power boost, making him a powerful fighter on par with Jinbe.

One Piece Just Gave the Straw Hats’ Shipwright a Huge Power Upgrade

In One Piece chapter 1176, “With Pride,” Vegapunk Lilith uses a device that can store energy from any source. She demonstrates this by absorbing the massive fire engulfing the school and converting it into heat energy, which she stores in a bottle. Giving the bottle to Franky, she notes he’s already impressively strong despite running on cola, and suggests a more powerful fuel source would unlock even greater potential. After drinking the stored energy, Franky immediately displays a level of power unlike anything he’s shown before.

Fueled by this new energy source, Franky now hits with a force comparable to Jinbe’s powerful Fish-Man Karate. This clearly shows a significant boost to his strength – he’s now stronger than a Pacifista thanks to the Super Vega-Cola. Interestingly, Franky’s involvement in Elbaph suggests the island might also hold the key to achieving his lifelong dream.

Franky desperately wants to build the perfect ship, one capable of sailing around the world. Although the Thousand Sunny is already on that journey, it needs improvements before the final, decisive battle. Rumor has it that Elbaph is home to the massive Adam Tree, a source of incredibly strong Adam Wood. This wood could be the key to giving the Straw Hats’ ship the ultimate upgrade and finally fulfilling Franky’s lifelong dream. Interestingly, the Elbaph arc has turned out to be particularly beneficial for Franky, a bit of a surprise since many fans initially expected Usopp to be the one gaining new abilities or progressing towards his goals.
