“I Felt Grateful to Finally Say Them”: Demon Slayer Star Shares Excitement Over Sanemi’s Anime-Only Scene

In my observation, I find myself amidst the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa – a formidable Demon Slayer with extraordinary skills. This character made his debut towards the end of the first season’s thrilling narrative. The situation was far from cordial when it was revealed that Tanjiro was keeping a demon close. With the exception of Giyu, all Hashira showed disapproval. The reactions varied greatly; some were understanding or apathetic, while others like Sanemi and Obanai were strongly against this arrangement. In an attempt to unmask Nezuko’s true nature, Sanemi went so far as to challenge her by inflicting a wound and displaying his tainted blood – a Marechi’s provocation tactic.

Intriguingly, Nezuko defied expectations by recoiling from my blood, unlike most demons would. The incident had settled down by that point, and Sanemi hadn’t been seen until the Hashira Training Arc. Prior to this, he was merely a fleeting figure in Genya’s flashback, implying that even as a Hashira, his talents were yet to be fully displayed. However, during the Infinity Castle Arc, the Demon Slayer series provided him with a long-awaited spotlight through an exclusive scene added to the beginning of the Hashira Training Arc. Delightfully, voice actor Tomokazu Seki shares his thoughts on the exciting opportunity to introduce Sanemi’s distinctive Breathing Technique for the first time.

Demon Slayer Star Reflects on Sanemi’s First Action Scene

On July 16th, 2025, a unique episode titled “Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc” was broadcasted on Fuji TV as part of a special marketing anime series. This episode introduced an exclusive fight scene where Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro collaborated. For the first time in the animated adaptation, these Hashira displayed their fighting techniques, a scene not originally found in the manga. In the source material, Sanemi showcases his Breathing Technique’s first form against Giyu in Chapter 130 during a sparring session. Conversely, Obanai uses it in Chapter 139 of the same arc. The anime offers an early glimpse into their powerful abilities and even reveals the Infinity Castle by fortunate circumstances.

As an observer, I noticed that Seki expressed a profound sense of fulfillment during the scene, as he shared, “The crowd’s encouragements such as ‘Total Concentration!’ made me eagerly anticipate the moment. When I saw the technique names in the script, I felt deeply appreciative to finally be able to utter them.

Later on, he disclosed that the team opted for an aggressive and vigorous strategy. Seki mentioned, “I believe I uttered the ‘Wind Breathing’ lines consecutively thrice, as if letting go of something that had accumulated over time.

In the anime, the character Wind Hashira primarily employs the second and fourth forms during combat, with an exception being a first form used against Giyu in sparring. However, it’s important to note that Wind Breathing encompasses nine unique techniques, all of which will be shown in the upcoming trilogy film. In the recently released Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie, Sanemi reappears and engages in a battle against one of the Upper Moons. Although it premiered in Japan on July 18th, 2025, U.S. audiences will have to wait until September 12th, 2025, for their chance to see it in theaters.
