Everyone is incredibly excited about Crimson Desert, but the big question now is: will it perform well on PlayStation and Xbox?
There’s a rumor going around that this very ambitious console RPG won’t be reviewed by anyone before it comes out, and that’s made a lot of PlayStation 5 owners understandably worried.
Throughout the launch of their game, Korean developer Pearl Abyss has remained optimistic. Even without showing gameplay on consoles, they don’t seem to be concealing anything about it.
I just saw a preview from FightinCowboy, and they shared a statement directly from the studio – here’s what they said…
We don’t expect people to take our word for it, so we’re letting Digital Foundry do a thorough performance analysis of the game on all platforms when it launches. They’ll provide an objective look at how it runs.
The team at Digital Foundry recently confirmed this in a new tech Q&A they did with the game studio.
Alex Battaglia mentioned in a recent article that his team is currently working on coverage, and they’re already preparing an in-depth first look at the PS5 Pro version, even though the article itself was quite complex.
Understandably it’s got a lot of work to do here, so more coverage will follow.
A recently released technical document shows Sony’s powerful new system aims to achieve a smooth 60 frames per second while using advanced ray tracing. This is made possible by improvements to their upscaling technology, known as PSSR. Although the system internally renders at 1080p, it’s expected to produce a clear 4K image if the new technology works as intended.
Meanwhile, the base PS5 version will target 60fps at 1080p with low ray tracing settings enabled.
You’ll have more visual settings and pre-made options to choose from, and you’ll also be able to prioritize a smoother frame rate of 30 frames per second, which will increase the resolution, no matter what device you’re using.
So the core numbers look impressive, then, but the proof is going to be in the pudding.
The development team clearly believes in their work, and allowing Digital Foundry complete access shows that confidence. Now it’s time to see what Digital Foundry discovers.
