Emmerdale legend joined by former Coronation Street stars as whole new family unit confirmed for Hollyoaks

Hollyoaks is welcoming some well-known actors! Three popular soap stars have been confirmed as the first members of a brand new family joining the show.

This spring, Matthew Wolfenden, known for his role on Emmerdale, and Rebecca Ryan and Lewis Walton, from Coronation Street, will be starting a new chapter in their lives together in a village near Chester.

After 17 years on ITV as shopkeeper David Metcalfe, actor Wolfenden left the soap in 2023. He then moved to the stage, appearing in the West End production of Elf: The Musical, and started a podcast called Celebrity Side Hustles with his former colleague, Roxy Shahidi.

I remember seeing Ryan years ago – she actually played Bob Hope’s daughter, Carly, back in 2006! She’s done a lot of TV work, including a really memorable stint on Coronation Street where she played this creepy stalker, Lydia Chambers, who caused so much trouble for Adam and Sarah. But honestly, I think most people, myself included, know her best as Debbie Gallagher from Shameless. That role really put her on the map, and she was brilliant in it.

Actor Walton, new to the show, has been praised for his performance as a young Mick Michaelis in a recent flashback episode of Coronation Street. He plays the youngest member of the Keane family.

He’s following a similar path to his co-star, Brook Debio, who previously played young Kit Green and now stars as Ant Hutchinson in the E4 soap opera.

New photos from Lime Pictures show three actors filming fun scenes in Childwall, Liverpool – the area where Hollyoaks is made. The characters are wearing oversized sunglasses and loading boxes into a moving van, suggesting they’re preparing to move.

I’m thrilled to announce I’m joining Hollyoaks as part of a new family moving into the show,” said Wolfenden. “It’s a real honor to be part of such a well-known and beloved series.

Ryan, known for roles in Waterloo Road and Casualty, shared their excitement about joining the show. They described their character as energetic, spirited, and deeply loyal.

I’m really looking forward to introducing her to you all. I’m having a wonderful time, and I’m eager to hear all about her experiences.

Walton expressed his excitement about joining, describing his character as charming, athletic, and a consistently upbeat and enjoyable person to be around.

Given this is Hollyoaks village, this ‘unexpected challenge’ could be absolutely anything

Hollyoaks is available to watch on Channel 4 catch-up and airs Monday to Wednesday, from 7pm on E4.
