As a big fan of classic horror, I’ve always loved the Universal Monsters – The Mummy, The Wolf Man, Invisible Man, the whole crew. But Dracula? He’s the iconic one, right? It’s a little surprising, though, that recent Dracula movies haven’t really connected with audiences. That’s why I’m excited about the new prequel to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It sounds like they’re finally going to dive into a really famous part of vampire history and, hopefully, give the story a fresh direction.
A new Dracula project, titled The Brides, is in the works, based on Charlotte Cross’s popular novel (according to Bloody Disgusting). The film will focus on the story of the three women who became Dracula’s brides, and the one who successfully escaped. Interestingly, The Brides will serve as both a prequel and a sequel to Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The Brides Will Finally Explore A Mysterious Part of Dracula’s History

Many movies have told the story of Dracula, but the tale of his three brides hasn’t been fully developed. These women, originally called ‘the sisters’ in the novel, appeared in the original story but haven’t received much focus in film adaptations.
The three vampires appeared at different times both inside and outside the castle during a key scene featuring Van Helsing. They nearly overpowered him, but Mina’s desperate cry – a ‘Soul Wail’ – intervened, giving Van Helsing the chance to break their spell and ultimately destroy them one by one.
Honestly, what I find so exciting about these characters is how much of their past remains a mystery. We know they were vampires, but what happened before that, before the story even starts? That’s a huge opportunity for some really compelling storytelling. And then, throw in the fact that there was a fourth bride who actually got away – now that just adds another layer of intrigue and makes the whole thing even more captivating.
This doesn’t just add to the central puzzle—it makes the relationships between the brides and Dracula much more compelling, elevating the film beyond a typical Dracula story.
The Brides is set to land in theaters on July 7th.
