In Season 2, Episode 3 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the main characters are pulled in different directions as they grapple with recent events. A new threat to Godzilla, a monster called Titan X, has been released, and the organization Monarch is falling apart after being taken over by Apex Cybernetics at Outpost 18. Lee and Keiko are attempting a risky plan, while Tim pursues his own separate investigation.
Tim is right to be suspicious of Apex. He gets the idea to ask May for help, knowing she used to work with them, and convinces her to rejoin the organization. Once inside, May quickly discovers that Apex has been secretly watching them all along. She also finds a large collection of stolen files from Monarch, complete with dates and details. Importantly, she realizes the dates on the files indicate when the reports were written, not when the actual events occurred, which is a crucial clue to understanding what the files mean.
7. The US Government Attempted to Kill Godzilla in 1954
The earliest file is from March 1st, 1954, and originates from Castle Bravo at Bikini Atoll. It’s the most straightforward to understand because it corresponds with Monarch’s initial confirmed encounter with Godzilla, one of the Titans from the Monsterverse. As shown in Season 1 of Monarch, Godzilla was lured to Bikini Atoll, where the U.S. military tried to eliminate him with an atomic bomb. They initially thought they succeeded, but later discovered they were wrong.
6. The Events of Kong: Skull Island

It’s no surprise Apex was aware of the events on Kong: Skull Island, as a report from James Conrad dated July 4, 1973, confirms. The Season 2 premiere showed that Apex and Monarch are now collaborating on a research base on Skull Island, meaning Apex would have naturally received all relevant information. This file is likely one that was obtained through legitimate means.
5. An Unknown Event in London

The following document is quite puzzling. It’s a report from James Conrad, dated November 8, 1979, and sent from London. While no major monster events were recorded in London that year, a detail from Legendary’s 2017 Monsterverse timeline might be relevant. This timeline suggests the severe smog that enveloped London in 1952 could have been caused by a Titan’s wings creating a weather pattern that trapped pollution. This idea may have originated with researchers in 1979, which would explain Conrad’s report.
I know from the Monsterverse movies, specifically Godzilla: King of the Monsters, that London is eventually going to be attacked by a Titan. This makes me wonder if there’s actually a Titan already sleeping somewhere nearby. Apparently, something was discovered in London back in 1979, but unfortunately, the character May doesn’t share the details in the file, so we’re left guessing!
4. A Monarch Mystery in Russia

Maps in the first season of Monarch showed the organization operated globally, including having facilities in the former Soviet Union. So, it makes sense that a record exists from 9/10/1984 originating in the USSR, seemingly filed by a Soviet branch of Monarch, nicknamed “Red Monarch.” This event may be linked to the Titan Amhuluk, which is known to sleep near the Manpupuner Rock Formation and is monitored by Outpost 66. Another possibility is that a different Titan will attack Moscow when King Ghidorah is causing destruction.
3. An Unexpected Mothra Reference in Monarch Season 2

A surprising find is a file from New York City, dated April 16, 2001, referencing “Titanus Mosura” – the scientific name for Mothra. This suggests some unexpected developments are coming. It’s important to understand this file doesn’t document an actual sighting of Mothra, but rather when and where the file itself was created. This could mean the file details discoveries about Mothra, not an encounter with her.
2. An Official Monsterverse Comic Just Got A Surprise Nod

Throughout these records, we’ve consistently found details about when and where files were created, not about the events themselves. This particular file is proof of a report filed by Avery Brooks on July 9, 2012, concerning Skull Island. It directly connects to the official Monsterverse comic, Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, which reveals that a retiring Avery Brooks found files belonging to his son, Aaron. These files detailed Aaron’s secret, and unsurprisingly dangerous, trip to Skull Island. It logically fits that Apex Cybernetics would possess these records related to Skull Island.
1. Setup for King Ghidorah

The most recent file is from August 2nd, 2016, and it came from Outpost 32 in Antarctica. This is the base that’s watching King Ghidorah while he’s dormant. Apex plans to use one of Ghidorah’s heads in the future for their Mechagodzilla project. Remarkably, all of this is established in a quick scene in Season 2 of Monarch.
