Let me tell you about a regret I have. Back in 1998, I almost had a complete set of the very first Pokemon Trading Card Game cards. But as a middle schooler, I started losing interest in Pokemon – specifically the cards – because I was more focused on other things. Instead of keeping my collection (which was missing only the Charizard card), I sold it on eBay for $600. It felt like a lot of money at the time, but now I really wish I hadn’t! I still think about that decision and regret it more often than I’d like.
I started collecting again during the pandemic, when it was incredibly difficult to find anything – people were even pushing each other at stores to grab restocked items! Things eventually calmed down, and I was able to find a few packs here and there to feed my hobby. But now, the market is flooded again, and it looks like it’s going to stay that way. So, I’m mostly just buying Elite Trainer Boxes and a few packs for my sons, and trying to be patient when new products are released, hoping I can actually get them.
I was lucky enough to pre-order the Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Order set, and I’m really happy I did! The Pokémon Center sent us some early copies, and after opening a ton of packs, I can say this expansion really lives up to its name—it feels fantastic.
The Products: What’s in the Box (or Boxes, in My Case)
The next installment in the Mega Evolution Series, Perfect Order, will be released on March 27, 2026.
I’m so excited about this new Pokémon TCG set! It’s really connected to the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A game, and it’s all based around Lumiose City, which is awesome. Finally, we’re getting the trading card versions of Mega Clefable, Mega Starmie, Mega Skarmory, and Mega Zygarde as Pokémon ex cards! There are a whopping 124 cards in total, including some really cool illustration rares, so I can’t wait to start collecting and see everything this set has to offer.
Here’s what’s available:
- Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Order Build & Battle Box | $58.95
- Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Elite Trainer Box | On sale for $99.95 (Reg. $114.85)
- Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Booster Bundle on Amazon | $59.95
- Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Perfect Booster Bundle on Amazon | On sale for $264.95 (Reg. $279.99)
Build & Battle Box

Okay, so you’re thinking about going to a prerelease? Awesome! This Build & Battle Box is where you want to start. It basically gives you everything you need to jump right in – a full 40-card deck that’s ready to play, a shiny foil promo card (there are four different ones you could get!), four booster packs, and a code for the Pokémon TCG Live online game. It’s a really convenient way to show up to a prerelease and actually have a deck to compete with right away.
This set is perfect for players new to Mega Evolution, letting them try out the mechanic without needing a huge collection. Even though it’s a smaller product, it still captures the feel of Lumiose City, and the Mega Evolution combinations are exciting and enjoyable to play with.

Elite Trainer Box

Most collectors, including myself—I especially like to collect the Pokemon Center versions of these—will likely be drawn to this Elite Trainer Box. It’s packed with everything you need to play and collect: nine booster packs, a special Tyrunt promo card with unique artwork, energy cards, card sleeves, accessories for gameplay, and a collector’s box with dividers to keep everything organized. The included player guide even shows you a preview of all the cards and how rare they are, which is great for knowing what to look for.

Booster Bundle

Looking for a quick and easy way to expand your collection? The Booster Bundle is perfect for casual fans who enjoy the thrill of opening packs without the pressure of completing an entire set. It’s affordable, requires no big commitment, and still gives you that satisfying feeling when you discover new cards.

Booster Display Box

Okay, so this thing is HUGE! It’s a box with thirty-six booster packs inside. If you’re like me and love opening packs on stream, or you’re seriously trying to collect the entire set, or you just want to go wild and get a ton of cards at once, this is what you need. Honestly, it’s the best way to really get a sense of how rare certain cards are and how the set is designed. It gives you a real feel for what you’re pulling!

My Early Pulls: The Highlights (and the Commons Stacking Up)

I’ve had some good luck with my pulls so far! I’ve gotten an Espurr Illustration Rare (095/088), a Rowlet Illustration Rare (090/088), a Lapras ex (022/088), a Meowth ex (062/088), and a Mega Starmie ex (021/088). I was especially excited to get the Meowth ex, as it was heavily featured in the set’s advertising, and it felt like a win even though it wasn’t the special illustration version.
You’ll see Nosepass, Aromatisse, Bunnelby, Core Memory, and Pokémon Catcher appear a lot in this set. In fact, you’ll become very familiar with them after opening just one display box – it feels like you already know them well!
A Promising Launch for the Mega Evolution Series
The new Pokémon TCG expansion, Mega Evolution—Perfect Order, is looking really promising! I especially love the charming and consistent artwork. The Mega Evolution ex cards are highly collectible, and the set has something for everyone – from players just starting out to dedicated collectors.
No matter if you’re buying a small pack or a full box, there’s plenty to be excited about, particularly the incredibly rare Mega Zygarde ex card!
