According to FlixPatrol, the top two movies on HBO Max globally are War for the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, in that order. War for the Planet of the Apes is currently the most popular movie in several countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic.
The movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes topped the charts in places like Belize and Brazil, and also performed very well globally on HBO Max, even reaching number two in Argentina and Chile. Both the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes series are incredibly popular and have remained favorites for many years.
The Planet of the Apes Reboot Film Series Began in 2011
The movie, a 2001 remake starring Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter, was a financial success, earning $362.2 million on a $100 million budget. However, it received generally mixed reviews and didn’t generate enough buzz to warrant a sequel, so Fox decided against making one.
The Planet of the Apes series was successfully rebooted in 2011 with a new film starring Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis. As a big fan of the Planet of the Apes reboot series, I always check Rotten Tomatoes. So far, Rise of the Planet of the Apes from 2011 is sitting pretty with an 82% rating from critics and a 77% score from audiences – not bad! But Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from 2014 really blew everyone away, racking up a fantastic 91% from critics and an 84% score from us moviegoers. Definitely two films worth checking out!
The 2017 film War for the Planet of the Apes received strong reviews, earning a 94% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating and an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The newest installment, released in 2024, currently has a 95% Tomatometer score and a 77% audience score.
