Fans have been asking for a sequel to The Simpsons: Hit & Run for years, and while one doesn’t seem likely anytime soon, the show’s creator hasn’t completely dismissed the possibility.
Matt Selman, a writer on the beloved PlayStation 2 game, recently shared some thoughts with People magazine about the game’s impact and whether a revival might happen.
Selman remembers being in his mid-20s when the game was made, and he was surprised by how popular it became. “I never imagined it would become a beloved classic,” he explains.
It was a long time ago, but I recall a meeting with the game’s creators shortly after Grand Theft Auto III was released. We felt the game needed to let players get in and out of cars, just like in Grand Theft Auto III, to create a similar experience. However, the developers were initially resistant to this idea. We had to really push for it, and thankfully, we succeeded! Being able to drive around and freely enter and exit vehicles ultimately made the game much more enjoyable.
Regarding a potential PS5 remaster or remake, the spokesperson stated that while nothing is confirmed, they know fans are interested.
According to Selman, while plans aren’t definite, he’d say ‘never say never’ regarding a potential return of Hit & Run. He explains that fan enthusiasm is high, and because people clearly want it, the possibility shouldn’t be ruled out.
This news follows the recent formation of New Radical Games, a team made up of the original developers of Hit & Run. While there’s probably no connection, it definitely feels like things are falling into place, and that’s encouraging.
