One Piece Season 2’s Best Character Is A Straw Hat, But It’s Not Luffy

As a huge One Piece fan, I’m loving season 2! Everyone’s saying it’s even better than the first, and I totally agree. The characters are just fantastic. Chopper is as cute as I imagined, and Wapol is brilliantly awful – a perfect villain. Even the smaller roles, like Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine, really stand out and feel like they stepped right out of the manga!

As a huge One Piece fan, I’m still completely hooked on following the Straw Hats, and it’s great to see Vivi and Chopper join the crew! Luffy, naturally, is always the star – it’s hard not to focus on him! This second season really gives him some fantastic moments, like when he takes down Wapol and that incredibly touching scene with Laboon. It’s classic Luffy, and it’s what I love about the series.

While Monkey D. Luffy is the central character in One Piece, a member of his own crew actually steals the show in the second season of the Netflix live-action series.

Zoro’s Fight At Whisky Peak Is One Piece Season 2’s Highlight

It’s hard to choose the best moment from One Piece season 2, but Zoro’s battle against 100 enemies at Whisky Peak really stands out. The fight is incredibly well-done, and many people contributed to its success – including the episode director, Josef Kubota Wladyka, the stunt team, and the set designers who created the perfect setting for such an epic clash.

Zoro is the clear focus of the action, and Mackenyu truly shines as a leading action star. The fight scenes are a dynamic mix of fast-paced, modern action – think John Wick – and classic martial arts. While the choreography is sharp and impactful, it’s the emotional weight of the battle at Whisky Peak that truly makes it stand out.

Zoro is driven to become stronger by a constant feeling of being inadequate and the overwhelming presence of Dracule Mihawk. This intense desire to improve and prove himself gives his battles a meaning that goes beyond simply defeating his opponents.

The ‘Whisky Peak’ sequence is easily the most exciting action scene in Netflix’s One Piece so far, and it’s a contender for one of the best TV fight scenes in recent years. With Monkey D. Luffy not having a major battle this season, Roronoa Zoro takes center stage, delivering thrilling action, impressive skill, and fantastic choreography to really energize the show’s second season.

Zoro’s Desperation To Improve Is One Of Season 2’s Standout Arcs

As a big fan of One Piece, I really appreciate how season 2 gives each of the original Straw Hat crew a chance to shine. Usopp’s journey at Little Garden, where he discovers what real courage is from the giants, is great. But honestly, it’s Zoro’s arc that really stuck with me – it’s the most compelling part of the season, in my opinion.

Still reeling from his defeat by Mihawk, Zoro tries to regain confidence by defeating 100 Baroque Works agents, but his journey to Little Garden reveals his vulnerabilities. He struggles against Mr. 3, finding his swordsmanship ineffective when trying to protect Nami and Vivi from the wax Mr. 3 controls. Zoro desperately tries to cut through the incredibly strong wax trapping his leg, even contemplating self-amputation to break free.

Zoro is reminded that the Grand Line is a whole new level of challenge. He realizes he needs to become significantly stronger if he wants to achieve his dream of being the world’s best swordsman.

The recent One Piece manga and the Netflix adaptation have shown a new side of Zoro. Usually a solitary fighter, he now takes a leadership role on Drum Island, helping the villagers fight against Wapol’s robot army. He even offers support to Dalton and temporarily becomes the island’s captain of the guard, demonstrating growth and a willingness to take on responsibility.

Zoro’s main ambition in One Piece hasn’t changed, but the reasons why he’s striving for it are shifting. He’s less focused on past events and more driven by what’s happening now.

Zoro’s Story Is Leading Directly Into One Piece Season 3

Zoro struggles with this challenge, but the message is clear: he needs to push past his boundaries and become powerful enough to cut through any obstacle. We’ll soon see how determined Zoro is to reach that level of strength, as season 3 of One Piece will put him to the test.

During the Alabasta arc, Zoro battles Mr. 1, one of Baroque Works’ most powerful agents, second only to Crocodile. Mr. 1’s Devil Fruit ability lets him turn any part of his body into a sharp blade and gives him incredibly strong defenses, similar to the wax defenses of Mr. 3. To win this fight, Zoro has to find a way to cut through extremely durable materials – a challenge he previously struggled with during the battle at Little Garden.

Zoro’s leadership in the Drum Kingdom storyline hints at future development. While he initially insists he won’t compromise his dream of being the world’s best swordsman for anyone, the manga shows him becoming more and more willing to risk his life for Luffy. This dedication reaches a peak when Zoro bravely accepts a massive amount of damage that would have killed Luffy, taking it onto himself instead.

We’ll likely see that particular scene in either the sixth or seventh season of Netflix’s One Piece. However, the current second season is already subtly building Zoro’s relationships with his crewmates, hinting at what’s to come.

Zoro Is The Real Star Of One Piece Season 2

Season 2 of One Piece boasts a strong ensemble cast, with every member of the Straw Hat crew contributing meaningfully to the story. While the season delivers both exciting action and great character growth, Roronoa Zoro stands out as the most valuable player. Some viewers felt Zoro didn’t get enough focus in the first live-action season, but that’s definitely been fixed by the end of season 2, and there’s plenty more to look forward to for his character in season 3.

Mackenyu is proving to be perfect for his role in Netflix’s One Piece. Capturing the complex personality of Zoro in a live-action adaptation was a big challenge, but Mackenyu makes it seem easy. He convincingly portrays Zoro’s intensity, whether he’s fighting enemies, arguing with cooks, or simply glaring at everything around him.
