Teyana Taylor has had a super sweet journey to the 2026 Oscars.
Long before earning her first Oscar nomination, the actress known for One Battle After Another first became famous appearing on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 as one of the show’s memorable teenagers.
Teyana Taylor showed off her flair for performance in February 2007 when she made a memorable entrance to her 16th birthday party. She arrived inside a giant plastic box, dressed as a doll, and then immediately launched into a choreographed dance routine.
Months before her TV appearance, Teyana was signed to Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak Entertainment label. Later that night, he surprised her with a custom bicycle and a brand new, all-white Range Rover.
Honestly, her party was amazing. She was so proud at the end of the show, and rightfully so! She totally delivered on her promise to throw a party unlike anything anyone had ever seen, and she declared herself the queen of New York – and you know what? I think she earned it. It was a night to remember, and she absolutely owned it.
Now 35, Teyana Taylor has built an impressive career. As a successful musician, with hits like “Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor,” she’s collaborated with major artists including Kanye West, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, and Erykah Badu. She also showcased her dancing skills as a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew in 2015.
And impressively, she choreographed Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm” music video back in 2005 when she was only 15 years old.

Teyana, a mom to daughters Junie, 10, and Rue Rose, 5, with her ex-husband Iman Shumpert, is now focusing on acting alongside her other creative work.
She recently told Time Magazine that she thrives on challenges, believing they signify meaningful effort. She’s determined to achieve everything she wants and is willing to work incredibly hard to do so.
As for how the All’s Fair actress is feeling heading into the Academy Awards?
She added, “Even if I don’t achieve what I hoped for, I still feel like a success. We’re young and fortunate, and we should enjoy this moment and have fun.”
Okay, so Teyana got nominated, which is AMAZING, but I’m seriously dying to see what everyone else thinks! I’m already glued to social media, trying to find out how all the 2026 Oscar nominees are reacting before the show even starts on ABC March 15th. I need to know everything!
