Invincible season 4 will feature both the continuation of the Viltrumite War storyline and the introduction of Dinosaurus, a character fans have been eager to see. In addition, a character will return with a plotline created specifically for the show, diverging from the original comic books. According to co-showrunners Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa, this return will be a significant event.
During the first season of Invincible, the demon detective Damien Darkblood played a role in the early investigation of Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson), who was the main suspect in the Guardians of the Globe’s deaths.
The TV show and the original comics had slightly different endings for this character. In the show, Cecil sent him back to Hell to prevent him from causing trouble with his schemes. Initially, in the comics, this character was mostly used for comedic relief and faded from the story once Omni-Man’s remorse became clear.
After a brief hint at the end of his first season and a confirmed appearance speaking with Satan at the end of season 3, Damien Darkblood is coming back for Invincible season 4. This time, he’ll be part of a storyline created specifically for the show.
Based on what we’ve seen in the trailers for Invincible season 4, Darkblood’s next storyline will likely take place in Hell. He’ll be wearing impressive armor to fight a strong opponent, and it looks like Mark Grayson will get caught up in the battle.
Kirkman and Racioppa explained that this storyline isn’t optional – it’s a crucial part of the season 4 Viltrumite War arc. They emphasized its importance for both longtime comic book readers and viewers who are new to the Invincible story through the show.
Kirkman explained that the show has undergone significant changes, with storylines being both expanded and trimmed. He noted that while the series often evolves, a truly original direction like this is relatively rare.

This is a completely new element of the show, and I think it’s going to be exciting to see how it connects to the larger story of the Viltrumite War. You’ll have to watch to find out more!
Racioppa emphasized the significance of this new story arc, even though it wasn’t part of the original comic books. He explained, “Every episode of Invincible matters. Everything is connected, impacts the characters, and drives the story forward. This episode is definitely crucial to the season.”
Based on the quality of recent seasons, the creators’ predictions will likely come to pass. Because the original comic book author is heavily involved in the TV show, they can make changes that enhance the story while staying true to the source material.
The relationship between Nolan and Debbie felt more important before the major battle between Omni-Man and Mark, which made the consequences of that fight much more powerful both during the first season and in the seasons that followed.

Recently, a surprising change – reimagining Rae’s gender and altering her storyline to survive an attack by the Lizard League’s Komodo Dragon – actually turned out to be a great improvement. This new direction allowed for compelling character growth that was showcased in season 3.
Even though season four tackles some of the most outlandish and expansive storylines from the comic books – including ‘Dinosaurus,’ ‘Universa,’ and the build-up to the Viltrumite War – Robert Kirkman and Rock Racioppa are skilled enough to seamlessly weave in an additional story about Damien Darkblood, even with a season already full of content.
