A fantastic 13-episode fantasy anime with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is currently available on Netflix. Despite widespread praise from both viewers and critics, and being created by the renowned MAPPA studio (known for shows like Attack on Titan: Final Season and Jujutsu Kaisen), the series hasn’t yet gained the widespread attention it deserves.
Even though it wasn’t as big a hit as other anime from MAPPA Studio, the show is getting another season! It’s coming back to Netflix nearly six years after the first season, which is unusual. Since it didn’t get much attention initially, now is a great time to check it out before the new season arrives.
I walked away from this Netflix anime feeling really optimistic. If enough people tune in and it gets a second season, I honestly think it could reach the same level of quality and captivating storytelling as some of MAPPA’s biggest hits. It’s got that kind of potential, and I’m hoping it gets the chance to shine.
Dorohedoro Season 2 Premieres 6 Years After Its Predecessor
Based on Q Hayashida’s manga, the anime Dorohedoro first appeared on Netflix in 2020. The manga is known for its unique and chaotic art style and complex fantasy world, making it a challenging adaptation. However, MAPPA Studio successfully captured both the wild energy and the emotional core of the original story.
With its strange and unconventional style, Dorohedoro isn’t a show for all viewers. Those new to anime might especially struggle with the initial episodes. This could explain why it never reached a massive audience.
The anime received very positive reviews and was a hit with most viewers, earning an impressive 8.04/10 score on MyAnimeList based on over 300,000 ratings. Despite its success, many fans didn’t expect a second season after the first one finished.
MAPPA Studio was already busy with major productions like the final season of Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen, making a second season of Dorohedoro seem unlikely. Over time, the chances of it happening became even smaller.
I’m so thrilled to hear that Dorohedoro is actually coming back to Netflix on April 1st, 2026, with season 2! And from the trailer, it looks like we’re in for an even wilder ride – even more violence, bizarre imagery, and a story that’s wonderfully all over the place. With the new season almost here, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit the first season if you haven’t already – trust me, you won’t regret it!
Dorohedoro Remains One Of The Most Overlooked Anime
Dorohedoro follows Caiman, a man with a lizard’s head who doesn’t remember his past. Driven by a strong dislike for magic users, he’s on a quest to find the sorcerer responsible for his condition. The story takes place in The Hole, a ruined and isolated world separate from the land of sorcerers.
Caiman, along with his friend Nikaido, is on a journey to find the wizard responsible for his transformation, hoping to become human again. Along the way, he meets powerful and dangerous sorcerers, but also gains the help of some surprising friends.
Beyond its captivating story, Dorohedoro stands out with its unique industrial-punk style and disturbing, yet fascinating, body horror imagery. It also manages to be surprisingly funny, and even though it deals with complex and mature topics, the show maintains a sense of playful imagination in its creation of the world.
This Netflix anime is surprisingly good – it’s both unsettling and endearing. It stands out because it mixes shocking violence with heartwarming and funny scenes. If you’re an anime fan, you should definitely watch the first season before the next one comes out on Netflix.
