As the PC release date of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – March 19th – approaches, director Hideo Kojima has announced a free update for the PS5 version. This update will include new challenges and rewards similar to those found in the PC version.
Kojima recently announced on a Japanese radio show, Spacewalk, that the PS5 version of the game will receive several updates. These include a new difficulty level called “To The Wilder,” the option to replay boss battles, new items, and the addition of live-action cutscenes. The game will also support ultrawide 21:9 displays and include various gameplay improvements. Social media user Okami13 shared the news, and all of these updates will be available on the PC version later this week.
The PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was revealed in February with a trailer highlighting its improved graphics and technology. Kojima Productions and Nixxes confirmed that while the game will run at any frame rate, cutscenes will be capped at 60 frames per second. The PC version will also take advantage of the DualSense controller’s features, including its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Jay Boor, head of publishing at Kojima Productions, shared more information about the PC version in a PlayStation Blog post. He announced that, in addition to technical improvements, the release will also feature new content.
The developer also announced that both the PC and PS5 versions of the game will launch with new game modes and features, providing players with fresh challenges and rewards. This news reminded some players of the original Death Stranding game, which later received a Director’s Cut with additional missions, though the developer didn’t elaborate further on what these new additions will be.
Earlier this month, Kojima Productions revealed a new trailer for the VR Training Mode in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. This mode lets players, as Sam Bridges, practice combat and stealth skills in different situations. Players can access the training through the Private Room on the DHV Magellan.
So, I finally got my hands on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which came out on PS5 back in June 2025. The game picks up with Sam after he’s been off the grid for a bit, and he gets tasked with bringing the Chiral Network down to Mexico. Things don’t go smoothly, of course, and after dealing with a bunch of complications, he sets off for Australia to try and expand the network across the whole planet. And yeah, a whole new continent means a whole new set of problems – new enemies, some familiar faces, and seriously tough environmental stuff to deal with.
When we first reviewed Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, we gave it a perfect score of 10 out of 10, calling it a true masterpiece. We especially loved the stunning graphics, the way it built upon the gameplay of the first game, and its unforgettable characters.
If you’ve been anticipating the PC release and want to know what to expect, here’s a rundown to get you prepared.
This week, when Death Stranding 2 comes to PC, PlayStation 5 owners will receive a free update. This update includes a more challenging difficulty setting called ‘To The Wilder’, the ability to replay boss fights (including the one against Neil), new items, previously unseen live-action cutscenes, and support for 21:9 ultrawide displays on PS5, among other additions.
