Instead of hunting monsters like in other Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Stories 3 focuses on becoming friends with them and helping to protect the environment. This includes working to bring back monster species that are in danger, but first, you’ll need to deal with the monsters that caused their numbers to drop in the first place.
To find where the endangered creatures live, you need to trick the invasive species into leading you there. This involves using each monster’s specific weakness to make it fall back, revealing its lair.
We’ll cover each endangered animal in the game, showing you where to locate them, which invasive species threaten their habitat, and how to drive those invaders away to reveal their hidden den.
Azuria Endangered Species
Rathian

You can find the Yian-Gurga in the Sunpetal Plains, specifically in the rocky area on the eastern side of the map. To make it retreat, you need to break its legs.
Lagicacrus

You’ll find the monster, Plesioth (Level 55), at Mirror Lake – specifically, in a cave along the northern shore. To make it run away, focus your fire attacks on its head.
Astalos

You can find the monster at Mirror Lake, on the cliff in the northwest corner. To get there, perform a Ground Dive on the northern island and glide across. The invasive monster is Seregios, level 60. To make it retreat, use Perfect Crush with a Hammer while it’s preparing its Invasive Scale Shot. Also, pay attention to the type of roar it uses on the previous turn to ensure you win the head-to-head confrontation.
- Onslaught Roar = Power Attack
- Defensive Roar = Technical Attack
- Quickening Roar = Speed Attack
Canalta Timberland Endangered Species
Canyne

You’ll find this monster at Blessing Hill, located at the river’s end on the southern part of the map. The monster is an Arzuros, level 50. To make it leave, you need to defeat the smaller Arzuros it calls in to deplete its honey supply.
Nargacuga

You can find the monster at Blessing Hill, specifically in a swampy area on the southeastern part of the map. The monster is a Nerscylla, and it’s at Level 50. To make it retreat, use a Gunlance and perform either Wyvern’s Fire or Wyvern’s Blaze while it’s using its Invasive attack against you.
Mizutsune

Okay, so I found this tough monster, the Shogun Ceanataur, level 60, hiding in a cave at Mt. Canalta. It’s behind a waterfall on the far west side of the area, near the river. The trick to getting it to back off? You gotta boost my Monstie’s defense – either with a Hunting Horn skill or the Circle Stance skill. If I do that, and it uses its Invasive Claw Strike, it’ll actually break its own claws and retreat!
Tarkuan Endangered Species
Zinogre

You’ll find the Odogaron (Level 85) at Rococo Rocks, located on the highest cliffs along the northern edge of the area. To make it retreat, use a Monstie like Almudron that can trap it in mud, stopping it from setting its claws on fire.
Tigrex

Okay, so I finally figured out how to deal with this Diablos! You can find it at the Colossal Dragon’s Remains, which is way down south. Getting there is a bit tricky – you have to go around the big rocks in the southwest corner of Rococo Rocks. The Diablos is level 44, and honestly, it’s a pain! But here’s the trick to make it run away: when it dives underground, three little spots will appear on the ground. You need to use a Hammer and the Meteor Smash or Meteor Hammer skill on one of those spots. It seems to pop up from a random one, so you might have to try a couple of times, but it works! It’s frustrating, but definitely doable with a bit of patience.
Serathis Endangered Species
Barioth

You can find this area in the Glacial Caps, located in the northeast corner of the map. Getting there requires jumping between the tall rock pillars. The invasive monster here is a Level 44 Khezu. To make the Khezu retreat, watch for it to start behaving oddly and using powerful attacks. Use Double Attacks with your Monstie to interrupt its movement twice, then follow up with a Kinship Skill to stop it a third time. This will prevent it from regaining energy and force it to retreat.
