Kiln, the newest and perhaps most surprising game from Double Fine Productions, comes out on April 23rd. You can get it for $19.99 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and players on all platforms will be able to play together. PC players can try it out early with an open beta on Steam from April 9th to 11th.
If you didn’t catch the news from Xbox Developer_Direct, Kiln is a team-based fighting game where you build pots using a detailed sculpting system. Then, those pots battle it out in 4v4 matches with a single goal: carry water to put out the other team’s kiln in the ‘Quench’ game mode.
Creating and customizing your pot in the game might seem simple, but it’s actually quite important! The shape of your pot affects how you play – a smaller pot, for example, lets you squeeze under low obstacles. The game also encourages breaking things, and making pots contributes to that fun chaos. You can even further personalize your pots at a central location called The Wedge.
Multiplayer games often don’t quite succeed, as we’ve seen with titles like FBC: Firebreak and the recently released Highguard. However, Kiln isn’t a standalone game; Double Fine plans to add more content after launch, though they haven’t shared specific details yet. We’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
