Tom Georgeson, best known for his role in the BBC series Boys from the Blackstuff, has passed away at 88 years old.
The actor, known for appearances in Doctor Who, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 18th, according to his nephew, Danny Conway, who spoke with the Liverpool Echo.
He was deeply saddened by the unexpected news. He’d last spoken to his uncle recently and was told he was doing well, making the news even more shocking. He expressed feeling proud of his uncle and grateful for his fame.
The actor, originally from Liverpool, worked in television and film for many years. He began his career in the 1960s with a role on the ITV series, Armchair Theatre.
He also appeared in the TV series Z Cars and acted in several plays at the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres early in his career.
I’ll never forget when Bernard Georgeson really broke through – it was his role in the BBC’s ‘Boys from the Blackstuff’ back in 1982. That show was so powerful, honestly. It just captured what life was really like for working-class lads in Liverpool who’d lost their jobs during Thatcher’s time as Prime Minister. It wasn’t glamorous, it was just…real life for so many people.
He first appeared in a minor role on Coronation Street as Eddie Royle, and later took on smaller parts in popular shows like Between the Lines, Holby City, The Bill, and Brookside.
Actor Peter Georgeson appeared in Doctor Who twice. He first played Kavell in ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ during Tom Baker’s first season as the Doctor, and later portrayed a detective in ‘Logopolis,’ which was the last episode of season 18.
He also appeared on the BBC series The Treasure Seekers, acting with Peter Capaldi.
Christopher Eccleston honored the late actor Georgeson with a post on Instagram, sharing a photo of him.
