Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is widely seen as a major success story. After his well-received Netflix series ended, he reappeared with small roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Echo. These appearances led to Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, which officially brought his previous stories into the main MCU timeline and gave the character a significant comeback. Now, with the second season of Born Again almost here and Spider-Man: Brand New Day planned for July, fans are speculating whether Daredevil will move from Disney+ to starring in a major Marvel movie.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote season 2 of Born Again, Charlie Cox repeatedly denied being in any upcoming Marvel movies. When Kimmel asked directly, Cox firmly said “no,” but then playfully added, “I could be lying.” This tactic reminded fans of how Andrew Garfield similarly denied appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home before it was revealed he was part of the film. However, the conversation changed when Kimmel brought up Avengers: Doomsday. This time, Cox responded with a more resigned “I don’t think so,” and jokingly said he was “waiting with bated breath” by the phone. This answer felt different from his previous denials, and the contrast between the two responses was striking.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Has the Perfect Opportunity to Feature Daredevil
The story of Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems closely connected to the world established by Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The initial trailer strongly suggests the return of the Hand, the ninja group that was the main enemy in the Daredevil series and the Defenders team-up on Netflix. Bringing the Hand into a major Spider-Man movie is a big step in connecting the TV and film sides of the MCU, especially since Daredevil has a long history battling them. With Season 3 of Born Again in the works and rumors that Elodie Yung’s Elektra will be involved, a Brand New Day storyline featuring the Hand could directly link the events of Cox’s series to the larger MCU narrative.

The upcoming film, Brand New Day, will include Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a character connected to the Daredevil universe. The movie’s political themes strengthen that link. The trailer shows Zabryna Guevara returning as Sheila Rivera, Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) political advisor from Born Again, giving Spider-Man the Key to the City. This scene hints at what happens after Fisk’s time as mayor, a story that will finish in the second season of Born Again. Essentially, the movie will deal with the period when Fisk was in charge of New York City.
Fans have noticed a change in the trailer for Brand New Day. A scene showing Spider-Man fighting ninjas appears to have been digitally edited, with some figures removed. Marvel has done this before – editing out characters from trailers to keep surprise appearances secret, as seen in Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. This particular edit, removing characters from a fight with the Hand ninjas, could mean Daredevil will appear alongside Spider-Man in a flashback or action scene. Considering Charlie Cox’s coy responses and the many hints the film provides, it seems Daredevil might be returning to the big screen soon.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again will start streaming on Disney+ on March 25th. And Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming to theaters on July 26th.
