Netflix has begun filming its live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Production started in Rome and will be set in 64 AD, telling a brand new story within the Roman Empire. Most of the filming is happening at Cinecittà Studios. This series marks the first project resulting from the collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft for the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Netflix hasn’t revealed much about the plot of its Assassin’s Creed series, but they’ve confirmed it will center around a hidden conflict between two groups: one trying to control humanity’s destiny, and the other fighting to protect people’s freedom. The show will likely feature different characters experiencing key events from history.
I’m so excited about this show! We already knew Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Claes Bang would be regulars, but Netflix just dropped some amazing news about who else is joining! Noomi Rapace (you might know her from Lamb and Prometheus), Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi will all be showing up as recurring characters – seriously, the cast is incredible! And that’s not all! Sandra Guldberg-Kampp, Youssef Kerkour, Mirren Mack, and Louis McCartney are also going to be in it. I can’t wait to see them all in action!
Roberto Patino, whose credits include DMZ, Westworld, and Sons of Anarchy, and David Wiener, known for his work on Halo, Homecoming, and The Killing, will create, run, and executive produce the new series. They shared in a statement that they’ve been fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise since it first launched in 2007.
I’ve been a huge Assassin’s Creed fan ever since the first game came out in 2007, and working on this show is just incredible. Every day, we’re blown away by how much potential the Assassin’s Creed universe has. What really gets me, though, is that underneath all the amazing action, parkour, and grand scale, it’s a story about really human things – people trying to figure out what their purpose is, grappling with who they are, and what they believe. It dives into themes of power, violence, desire, and revenge, which makes it so compelling.
At its heart, this show celebrates the importance of human connection, no matter where or when people live. It also explores what happens when those bonds are lost. We’re incredibly fortunate to be working with the talented teams at Ubisoft and Netflix, and we’re dedicated to delivering a truly exceptional experience for fans worldwide.
Patino and Wiener will share executive producer credits with Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones from Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole.
Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed any release date for its Assassin’s Creed series.
