Among all the different anime series created from the Gundam franchise, Mobile Fighter G Gundam stands out as truly unique. Instead of the usual conflict between the Earth Federation and Zeon, this series focuses on incredibly unusual and powerful robots, with Domon fighting to determine the fate of the universe. G Gundam quickly became a favorite among fans, partly because it was one of the first mecha series shown on Toonami, and it tackled some surprisingly serious themes. Now, a new anime has been released online that revisits a particularly epic battle from the original series.
A special video celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mobile Fighter G Gundam has been released, bringing back the iconic God Gundam and Master Gundam mechs. While not a full episode, the video showcases a thrilling battle between the two, created with experimental 3DCG animation. Bandai Namco Filmworks released the video on the official Gundam YouTube channel, aiming for a unique and exciting portrayal of these classic robots. You can watch it below!
The G Gundam Sequel in The Wings

Originally airing in Japan in 1994, the anime G Gundam became popular with North American audiences when it arrived on Toonami in 2002. Despite its debut over two decades ago, a follow-up anime series hasn’t been released, although plans for a sequel are in development.
The story Mobile Fighter G Gundam Gaiden: The East is Burning Red follows Master Asia’s son, Master Junior, and takes place after the events of the original G Gundam series. Originally released as an online novel, it’s currently unknown if this story will be adapted into an animated series, though the Gundam franchise has often revisited older storylines. For example, Gundam SEED recently returned with a new movie that became the most successful film in the franchise’s history, and the original Universal Century timeline continues to be explored. If you’re unfamiliar with this G Gundam sequel, here’s how Bandai Namco describes it:
Twelve years have passed since the “DG Incident,” a terrifying event that gripped the world. As a result, Gundam battles were stopped to clear out the dangerous “DG Dust” that had spread across the Earth. Master Junior encounters H, a mysterious girl he meets in Shinjuku, who is searching for the legendary treasure, the “Oriental Pearl,” with a large backpack. This Pearl holds the secret techniques of the powerful, undefeated Touhou school. Together, they set out to find Kash.
