GameCube Games Just Got Two Major Upgrades on Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo has improved GameCube games available through the Nintendo Switch Online service for the second time. Starting in 2025, Nintendo began subtly enhancing games from older consoles on Switch Online, and GameCube titles received an initial upgrade in December. This latest update further improves the games’ performance and makes playing them on Switch Online feel more authentic, closer to the original GameCube experience.

It’s unknown whether recent improvements have been applied to all GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online, or just to new releases. However, the latest addition, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, features some enhancements compared to earlier titles. Nintendo didn’t announce these changes, but players quickly spotted them.

Two Noticeable Upgrades for GameCube Nostalgics

One of the improvements is more accurate analogue stick control, bringing it closer to the original GameCube experience. Additionally, the game now supports HDR when using the CRT filter, ensuring consistent image brightness whether the filter is on or off.

So, I was really hoping the input delay issues with GameCube games would be fixed on the new Switch, but it looks like that hasn’t happened. I’ve been playing Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and honestly, it feels exactly the same as before. It’s a bummer, because fixing this was the biggest thing Switch Online members wanted. Still, it’s good to see they’ve made other improvements, even if this major problem remains.

One Nintendo fan shared their excitement about the new stick sensitivity feature, saying it’s a game-changer. They specifically wanted to play Wind Waker and learn F-Zero, but found both difficult before. They’re now optimistic about the future of the system.

Nintendo hasn’t announced any of the recent improvements to its Nintendo Switch Online service, which isn’t unusual – they’re not always the best at communicating changes or making things easy for users. Recently, most of these quiet updates have focused on GameCube games, likely because interest in GameCube is high with the upcoming Switch 2, and the way those older games are emulated needed the most work.
