*Spoiler warning for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man*
With the release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man on Netflix, we can now discuss major plot details and spoilers.
We anticipated significant character deaths in the movie, but one particularly shocking and violent death happened around the midpoint.
Under orders from the ruthless John Beckett (Tim Roth), Erasmus “Duke” Shelby (Barry Keoghan) followed Ada Thorne, a Member of Parliament and played by Sophie Rundle, as she walked through Birmingham during the bombing raids. She was on her way to deliver proof that would incriminate Duke and the Peaky Blinders.
Okay, so in this scene, things get really interesting. Duke, soundtracked by this incredibly moody track from Grian Chatten of Fontaines DC, ultimately couldn’t bring himself to harm his aunt. But instead of just not doing it, he decides to follow her, which immediately tells you this isn’t over – and something’s definitely brewing. It’s a fascinating choice that really ratchets up the tension.

It was brutal, honestly. Duke couldn’t bring himself to kill Ada, even tried to warn her, but then Beckett just… appeared, and shot her right in the head. He actually scolded Duke for not being able to do it himself before speeding off. The whole thing was awful, especially seeing Ada’s son, Karl Thorne, holding her afterwards – Kasper Hilton-Hille really conveyed that devastation.
After what happened, Tommy vows to get revenge on Beckett. However, before he can act, he has a vision of Ada while traveling to Birmingham, learning of her death through this ghostly encounter – even before anyone tells him.

In an interview with Michael Hodges for TopMob, actress Sophie Rundle hinted at what happens to her character, Ada, without giving away too many details about the film’s plot.
Rundle explained that creating a strong emotional impact is key for epic stories. “You want the story’s climax to be as powerful as the character‘s journey,” she said.
“I’m trying to speak in code, but it’s a fitting punctuation to the past 14 years of my life.”
She admitted she sometimes wishes she could redo things, armed with the knowledge she has now. However, she recognizes that the journey – with all its initial uncertainty and bold, impulsive energy – shaped the outcome, and changing it wouldn’t result in the same success.

Ada isn’t the only Shelby sibling who’s died; Arthur Shelby was killed before the story of ‘The Immortal Man’ began, and Tommy ultimately died after getting his revenge on Beckett.
The story concludes by setting the stage for future seasons, which will focus on the next generation of the Shelby family.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is out now on Netflix.
