I’m so excited! Good Smile Company and Chime Corporation just revealed they’re making a 3D action game based on Patlabor! It’s coming to PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam, though they haven’t said when yet. Still, this is awesome news for any Patlabor fan like me!
Yutaka Izubuchi oversaw the game’s mechanical design, Kazunori Itou handled the script, and Akemi Takada was in charge of character art.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
Experience classic moments from Mobile Police Patlabor in this 3D action game for home consoles. You can play through the story from two sides: as the members of Special Vehicle Section 2 in the main missions, or as their opponents in side missions. The game features over 20 different Labors to pilot, including the Ingram, Griffon, and Type Zero. Plus, hone your skills in Simulator Mode with shooting practice and Labor battles.
Story
I remember when Labor robots first started showing up everywhere – they were built for construction and stuff, but quickly, people started using them for crimes! It got so bad that the police had to create a special unit, Section 2 of the Patrol Labor Squadron, just to deal with rogue robots. That’s how the whole ‘Patlabor’ thing began, and honestly, it was pretty wild seeing these giant robots fighting other giant robots!
