Pokémon Champions Gets Release Date That’s Surprisingly Soon

Originally announced in February 2025 and detailed earlier this year, Pokémon Champions will officially launch in April 2026. This new Pokémon game is different from most others in the series, putting a greater emphasis on strategic battling rather than exploring the game world.

The new game, Pokémon Champions, will launch on April 8, 2026, for both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, according to the official Pokémon website. The game itself will be free to play, but a starter pack will be available for purchase as an upgrade. A mobile version of Pokémon Champions is also planned, though its release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Details about the release date are limited, but we have a glimpse of what’s included in the starter pack. It comes with the full game, plus extras like more storage for your Pokémon and a new battle theme. The Switch 2 version will also receive a free update to improve the graphics.

The Pokémon Company recently revealed that a new competitive format called Pokémon Champions will launch at the Indianapolis Regional Championships from May 29-31. This new format will be the main way players compete in the Video Game Championships at major Play! Pokémon events. More events are planned for this year, including competitions in Turin and North America in June, culminating in the Pokémon World Championships in August.
