Daredevil: Born Again builds on what didn’t quite work in the first season, making it a strong continuation of the original Daredevil series on Netflix. While Disney+ has launched many Marvel TV shows, few have reached the same quality as the initial Netflix Daredevil.

Marvel faced a challenge following up their popular Daredevil series. The first season of Daredevil: Born Again was initially planned as a new beginning for Charlie Cox’s character. However, bringing in Dario Scardapane, who worked on The Punisher, shifted the show’s tone to be more like the original Daredevil. While that change wasn’t flawless, the second season fully realizes that vision and is a significant improvement.

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again immediately feels like a departure from its first season. The action is significantly more brutal and closely resembles the intense, carefully choreographed fight sequences of the original Daredevil series, featuring plenty of impactful violence.

Charlie Cox is in incredible physical shape in season 2, giving a performance as Daredevil that really earns his reputation as the “Man Without Fear.” The story becomes much grimmer, building on the ending of season 1’s Daredevil: Born Again, where Wilson Fisk, now the Mayor of New York City, made vigilantism illegal. This season depicts a New York City in crisis, and Daredevil and his allies are the only ones who can save it.

A highlight of the first season was the “BB Report” segments, which brought a similar feel to the MCU shows as Sony’s Spider-Man films – they focused on everyday New Yorkers and really made the city feel like a living, breathing part of the story. The new season, Daredevil: Born Again, builds on this by tackling powerful themes like propaganda and the dangers of unchecked authority.

While the first few episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 are a bit slow as the show establishes a more mature and complex tone, the season quickly picks up and ultimately delivers a rewarding experience. Viewers should be aware that the best parts are yet to come, but the initial setup is well worth it.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Has A Surprising Standout Character In An Already Great Ensemble

Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio deliver outstanding performances as Daredevil/Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, respectively. Murdock is struggling to adapt to life as a fugitive after leaving his career as a lawyer, fully embracing his Daredevil persona. Meanwhile, Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, has his most compelling storyline yet as he fiercely tries to maintain control of New York City.

Surprisingly, Wilson Bethel’s portrayal of Bullseye steals the show in the Disney+ series. He was a standout character in the third season of Netflix’s Daredevil, which many fans consider the best, and he continues to make a big impact in Daredevil: Born Again. His actions, including the death of Foggy Nelson and key scenes with Matt, are particularly memorable.

I was really impressed with Wilson Bethel in the first season, even with limited screen time. But let me tell you, in season 2, he completely owns the role of Bullseye! Seriously, he’s fantastic. Whether it’s the intense action sequences that really showcase how dangerous Bullseye is with anything he can get his hands on, or the surprisingly emotional scenes that reveal a lot more depth to the character, Bethel delivers a knockout performance. He’s firing on all cylinders, and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page is a strong supporting character, right up there with Wilson Fisk. While she wasn’t heavily involved in the first season, she becomes a vital ally to Daredevil in his fight to reclaim the city, and her connection with Matt Murdock is further explored. Season 2 really highlights Karen’s independence and makes her a fascinating character in her own right.

Honestly, one of the things I really loved about Daredevil: Born Again season 2 was how it built on the characters we met in the first season on Disney+. Seeing Buck, Daniel, and Kirsten get more screen time and depth was fantastic. They really came into their own, and those two—Buck and Daniel—were key to making Kingpin’s storyline so compelling. It wasn’t just about Daredevil; their contributions added so much to the whole season.

Heather Glenn does get a bit better in season 2, but she still isn’t one of the most interesting supporting characters. And unfortunately, Matthew Lillard’s character, Mr. Charles, doesn’t really make an impact despite a good first impression, especially when compared to the other, more lively characters this season.

Tony Dalton is still delightful as Jack Duquesne, also known as the Swordsman, just as he was in the Hawkeye series on Disney+. And Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones was absolutely worth the wait! The new series catches up with her after several years, and it was really fun to see how her character has evolved.

Jessica Jones is back, and Krysten Ritter delivers the same fantastic performance fans adore. The connection between Ritter and Charlie Cox was a highlight of The Defenders, and seeing them together in Daredevil: Born Again felt like a return to that beloved era of Marvel television – their playful back-and-forth was as engaging as ever.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Sets Up An Exciting Future

With its renewal for a third season, Daredevil: Born Again is the first live-action Marvel series on Disney+ to move forward while still respecting its origins. The upcoming season 2 will set the stage for exciting new directions, promising fresh storylines for both Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin.

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again begins with a deliberate pace, setting up future events, and culminates in a truly exceptional and action-packed finale – arguably one of the best episodes ever made for a superhero show.
