A free game is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. While many Switch owners may already have the game thanks to backwards compatibility, this version is built specifically for the new console. This Switch 2 release also includes improvements over the original 2018 Switch version. The game, a popular online action RPG and shooter that first launched in 2013, continues to be a fan favorite.
Players with the new Nintendo Switch 2 can now download and play Warframe for free. This version of the game is a significant upgrade over the original Switch release, featuring improved graphics with 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, plus technologies like DLSS for even better performance. Other enhancements include more detailed shadows and textures, faster loading, improved sound, and support for the new Joy-Con 2 mouse. As a bonus, anyone who logs in to play on Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2) by April 15th will receive the Ambimanus Pack, which includes exclusive items like the Vericres Warframe, Akomeogi Warfan Skin, and various boosters to help you progress in the game.
An Old, But Still Popular 2013 RPG Shooter
Despite being released 13 years ago, Warframe remains incredibly popular. It recently almost reached 100,000 players on Steam at the same time, which is a strong number, even for new games. Interestingly, its peak popularity didn’t happen until around 2020 or 2021, long after it first came out. While being free-to-play certainly helps, many other free games haven’t maintained this level of success over time.
Better Than Ever
Warframe has changed a lot since it first launched over ten years ago – it’s significantly better now. Original versions of the game received scores in the 60s on Metacritic, but more recent releases, like the PS5 version, are now scoring in the 80s. Because of these improvements, it’s a great time to start playing, and the game continues to attract new players with no end in sight.
Although Warframe is free to play on Nintendo Switch, it requires a significant amount of storage space – almost 20 GB – to download the complete game.
