Be warned, major spoilers ahead for Fire Force Season 3 Episode 24! The anime series Fire Force is nearing its end, and the second-to-last episode revealed a surprising link to creator Atsushi Okubo’s earlier work, Soul Eater. As Fire Force concludes, Shinra Kusakabe has been battling to prevent another devastating global catastrophe. However, the episode revealed that humanity ultimately failed, and the Earth was completely destroyed.
The latest episode of Fire Force Season 3 saw Shinra overcome a difficult challenge to battle Haumea and the collective sadness of humanity. He unlocked a powerful new ability that Soul Eater fans will instantly recognize, transforming him into a god-like being with the power to reshape reality and build a new world. This new world’s design will especially appeal to those familiar with Soul Eater.
Fire Force Season 3 Episode 24 Brings Back Soul Eater Through Soul Resonance

In the final episode of Fire Force Season 3, Shinra makes the decision to merge his soul with his brother, Sho, and the mysterious doppelganger of their mother who appeared to assist them in Adolla. This doppelganger is revealed to be a symbol of hope, as she’s connected to the Evangelist’s doppelganger and represents the opposite of that being’s despair. Together, the three achieve Soul Resonance, fusing into a powerful new hero named Shinra Bansho Man.
In the anime Soul Eater, “Soul Resonance” was a technique that let a Meister and their Demon Weapon connect deeply and combine their powers. Now, in a recent storyline, Shinra is using this same ability to rebuild the world after its destruction. After many failed attempts, the world he creates closely resembles the one from Soul Eater. Recent teasers for the anime’s ending strongly suggest that Shinra actually created the world of Soul Eater many years before the events of that series.
What Does This Mean for Fire Force’s Finale?
Fans noticed similarities between Fire Force and Soul Eater, like the identical moon, and assumed they were just fun references since both series were created by the same artist. However, the second-to-last episode of Fire Force strongly suggests a deeper connection, particularly with the introduction of the Soul Resonance technique. Adding to this, the episode reveals that Arthur’s sword, Excalibur, has also developed a soul – a rather sassy one that frequently calls him an “Idiot” – due to this connection.
Recent developments are building anticipation for Soul Eater, and strongly suggest that Fire Force may have been a hidden prequel to the original series all along. As the story reaches its climax next week with Shinra’s reality-altering actions, we’ll finally know for sure. For now, it feels like the world of Soul Eater is returning to anime after almost twenty years.
