To mark its 15th anniversary, Game of Thrones released a new trailer featuring clips from House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, highlighting the show’s lasting impact. It’s amazing to think the series first aired on April 17, 2011! Few predicted Game of Thrones would become such a global phenomenon, leading to more adaptations of George R.R. Martin’s work and a surge in fantasy TV shows.
The trailer for Game of Thrones emphasizes what made the show so popular. It begins with Cersei’s iconic line – “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die” – the phrase that inspired both the show and the A Song of Ice and Fire books. The trailer also features memorable scenes from the series, like the Battle of the Bastards and the Red Wedding, events that fans will always remember.

The trailer offers quick looks at Ser Duncan the Tall getting ready for combat in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Daemon discussing dragons in House of the Dragon, then showcases scenes from all three series. It’s a reminder that we’ve enjoyed 15 years of this amazing story, and this impressive compilation will likely make you want to revisit Game of Thrones.
15 Years Later, Game of Thrones’ Impact on Fantasy Television Is Undeniable

Wow, it’s crazy to think it’s already been 15 years since Game of Thrones first aired! As a huge fantasy fan, I can definitely say it completely changed the game for TV. It wasn’t just a massive hit for HBO – look at the spin-offs they’re making! We’ve already gotten two amazing follow-up shows because of it, and with how well A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms did, I have a feeling we’ll be getting more epic fantasy for a long time to come.
As a fantasy fan, I’ve been watching everything Hollywood’s put out since Game of Thrones ended, and it’s been a mixed bag. But I really think Game of Thrones paved the way for a lot of these shows. It showed everyone that fantasy could work on TV, as long as it’s done well. I’m hopeful that something will eventually reach that same level of quality, and I’m especially excited about upcoming projects like Amazon’s Fourth Wing and the Stormlight Archive series on Apple. They both seem to have a lot of potential!
