Warning! Spoilers ahead for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again has been nearly flawless so far. It genuinely feels like a continuation of the original Netflix series, and the storyline involving the AVTF provides both exciting challenges for Daredevil and a relevant connection to current issues like ICE. Initially, my main concern was the lack of strong action sequences. The Netflix show was known for its frequent, intense fights, but this season of Born Again had fewer and less impactful fight scenes – though that has improved.
The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again, titled “Gloves Off,” cleverly addressed a previous issue in a really unexpected way. It starts with Bullseye impressively defeating an entire team of AVTF officers. This opening sequence was the best action scene of the season so far, delivering the same intense, gritty violence as the original Netflix series, and surprisingly began a path towards redemption for the character who killed Foggy.
The latest episode of Daredevil featured a surprising alliance: Daredevil and Bullseye teamed up, and the show explained it convincingly. It’s always difficult to make former enemies work together – think of characters like Maggie and Negan or Dom Toretto and Deckard Shaw – but in this case, it felt natural because Daredevil and Bullseye shared a common goal: taking down Mayor Kingpin. The episode culminated in the two crashing Kingpin’s boxing event, which turned disastrous, and a big fight broke out.
The episode ended with an exciting scene, but many Marvel fans noticed something else: a possible appearance by a well-known character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could that really have been the Watcher in Daredevil: Born Again?
Marvel Fans Are Convinced They Spotted The Watcher In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Around 47 minutes into the episode, just before the credits, some Marvel fans think they saw a quick appearance by the Watcher. After Daredevil and Bullseye crash through a window, Daredevil pauses to recover. While he’s getting up, some viewers believe they spotted the Watcher briefly looking at him through the window.
The Watcher, portrayed by Jeffrey Wright in the animated series What If…?, is a being who observes everything happening across all possible realities. This means he could have witnessed Daredevil and Bullseye teaming up against the Kingpin. However, given the realistic and street-level nature of this story, a direct connection to the more cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels unlikely.
Was The Watcher Cameo In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 4 Intentional?
Looking closely at the image, it does resemble the Watcher. However, when viewed from a different angle in other shots, it appears to be just the building’s ceiling lights, so it’s likely a coincidence. Perhaps someone on set noticed the resemblance and emphasized it, but it probably wasn’t intentionally planned during filming preparation.
What makes me think this isn’t the real Watcher is that we see him inside a building, looking out. He’s appeared briefly in other Marvel shows, especially animated ones, but he usually stands out in wide-open spaces – you wouldn’t expect to see him squeezed into a small place like a boxing gym.
Daredevil: Born Again Has Taken Place In Its Own Corner Of The MCU
Although Daredevil: Born Again is part of the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe and Matt Murdock has interacted with characters like Spider-Man and She-Hulk, the show largely focuses on its own self-contained story. Matt and his allies are primarily concerned with fighting crime in their neighborhood, Hell’s Kitchen, and aren’t involved with larger Marvel events like the multiverse or time travel.
