DC Comics is known for its excellent animated series, and fans will be thrilled to hear that one of its best, a bit of a hidden gem, is returning with a special free release this May. It’s been a positive year for Warner Bros. Animation supporters, as despite recent changes at the studio, many of their beloved classic shows are now available to a wider audience. After being removed from streaming services like HBO Max, these shows are finding new homes and reaching more viewers than ever before.
Tubi and Warner Bros. teamed up earlier this year to bring a large collection of classic animated shows to the streaming platform. The first releases arrived this spring, bringing back many beloved Cartoon Network shows that hadn’t been available for a while. Now, Tubi is preparing another wave of releases, with Static Shock being a highlight, debuting on May 1st (as noted by @JasonSt77097165 on X).
Static Shock Is Coming to Tubi May 2026
I’m so excited to share that Static Shock is finally coming to Tubi on May 1st! It’s been over a year since it disappeared from HBO Max, so fans have been waiting for a way to stream it. Tubi announced it as part of a big deal with Warner Bros., bringing back a ton of classic cartoons. As a former Kids WB! favorite, I think Static Shock is going to get a whole new wave of appreciation, and honestly, it deserves it! It’s such an important part of DC’s animated history.
I first saw Static Shock when it premiered on Kids WB! in 2000, and it ran for four seasons. The show was based on the Milestone Comics character Static, and they even had the original creators, Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan, involved in making the series. It was a really innovative addition to the DC Animated Universe, even featuring full crossover episodes with the Justice League that went both ways. Sadly, it was eventually cancelled, likely because fewer people were watching and merchandise wasn’t selling as well as they’d hoped.
Why You Need to Watch Static Shock

Now that Static Shock is back with a free streaming release on Tubi, there’s really no reason not to watch it! While it’s part of the DC Animated Universe, it’s often overlooked as one of the best shows in that collection. It uniquely stayed on Kids WB! throughout its run—most others moved to Cartoon Network—and it didn’t start connecting to the broader DC universe until its second season.
The first season felt like a classic Saturday morning cartoon. It followed Virgil Hawkins, who gained the ability to control electricity after being exposed to a strange gas. Each episode featured Virgil battling other kids with similar powers, while also tackling tough topics like bullying, drug use, and gun violence – issues rarely addressed in cartoons at the time. It’s definitely worth watching!
