According to reports, Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma is prioritizing a renewed focus on Xbox, improvements to the Achievements system, and especially Game Pass. An internal memo obtained by The Verge indicates Sharma believes the Game Pass subscription is currently too costly for many gamers.
Game Pass is key to getting the most out of Xbox gaming, but Microsoft acknowledges the current system needs improvement. Right now, it’s becoming too costly for players, so they’re working on finding ways to offer better value. In the future, they plan to make Game Pass more adaptable, though this will involve testing and learning over time, according to an internal memo.
Although Sharma didn’t announce any specific plans right now, she’s expected to have more in-depth discussions with employees next week. She also seems to be aware of online discussions suggesting that the price of Game Pass might change.
Last October, Microsoft faced criticism after announcing changes to its Game Pass subscription service. These changes included a price increase for the Ultimate tier to $30 per month and a new policy for the Premium tier. Premium subscribers would only have access to Xbox-published games after they had been available for a year, with new Call of Duty titles being an exception.
Microsoft is reportedly considering changes to its gaming service, potentially including no longer releasing popular games like Call of Duty on the first day. They might also offer a more affordable subscription option to provide better value for players. Recent discoveries suggest a new, lower-priced subscription tier, called ‘Triton,’ could focus solely on games made by Xbox itself.
It’s still unclear if future Call of Duty games will be part of a new subscription level or taken off the service completely. The next installment, reportedly called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, is expected to be released in October.
