As a big movie and gaming fan, I was excited to hear some potentially great news for Neo Geo lovers! It looks like new hardware might be coming, based on a listing that briefly appeared on the ESRB website. The Neo Geo was home to so many awesome games – especially fighting games and beat-’em-ups – and it still has a really dedicated fanbase. SNK, the company behind the original Neo Geo from 1990, rarely releases new consoles, so even a tiny rumor gets everyone talking!
On April 10, 2026, a user named @yoshinokentarou shared on X (formerly Twitter) that a briefly visible listing on the ESRB website hinted at a new game console. The listing mentioned “NEO GEO AES+,” referring to the classic Neo Geo home console system. SNK originally released the Neo Geo MVS arcade system in 1990, and the Neo Geo AES for home use in North America in 1991, which could play the same games with an adapter. This post, combined with a reference to PLAION GmbH (the company making the Atari 2600+), suggests a new Neo Geo console might be in development.
Could a Neo Geo AES+ Mini Be on the Way?

Okay, so thankfully someone saved a page from the internet before it disappeared – I’m looking at an archive of it right now. It’s about Samurai Showdown V Special, which the ESRB rated for mature audiences (17+). What caught my eye is it lists the system as the Neo Geo AES+. Now, SNK has a history of releasing different versions of their hardware – we saw it with the Neo Geo X in 2012, the Mini in 2018, the Arcade Stick Pro in 2020, and even Unico’s MVSX in 2020, with another mini console on the way for 2023. There’s been no shortage of Neo Geo stuff overall, but what fans like me have really been hoping for is a more powerful, proper mini console, and this AES+ listing makes me think that might finally be happening.
There’s speculation about a potential new Neo Geo console! A listing for “NEO GEO AES+” briefly appeared on the ESRB rating website (it’s now been removed). Since PLAION, the company behind the “+ series” like the Atari 2600+, was also listed, many believe a Neo Geo+ console might be in development.

The Neo Geo Mini exists, but it’s more like a tiny arcade machine than a retro console like the NES Classic. However, a recent discovery hints that a smaller version of the original Neo Geo AES console might be coming soon. Considering PLAION’s Atari 2600+, which plays both Atari 2600 and 7800 games and includes an upgraded joystick and a 10-game cartridge, the possibility of a similar Neo Geo device is exciting.
While a simple Neo Geo mini wouldn’t be very practical due to the high cost and rarity of original game cartridges, a modern Neo Geo AES console that could play those cartridges digitally would be fantastic. Many collectors have original games sitting unused, and this console could give them a new life. This idea comes from a brief listing on the ESRB website that was quickly removed, so it’s all unconfirmed. However, as a Neo Geo enthusiast, I’m hoping the listing wasn’t a mistake and that we’ll see this become a reality – I’d be among the first to buy it!
