Paddington 4 officially confirmed – with “world-renowned comedy writers” attached

StudioCanal has started working on a fourth Paddington movie. They’ve brought together a team of highly skilled comedy writers to create the script for the next film featuring the popular bear.

StudioCanal CEO Anna Marsh announced the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, but didn’t share any details about who will write the film or which actors from the previous three movies will be involved.

It’s not surprising to hear about another Paddington movie. Director Paul King had hinted at a fourth film – even before the third, Paddington in Peru, came out. Back in 2024, he told Deadline they were already considering future installments.

The movies, adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved books for children, have all been successful with both critics and audiences. The second film, in particular, is frequently praised as being exceptionally good.

A new musical playing in London’s West End has become a big hit, recently winning seven Olivier Awards.

We don’t have a release date for the next movie yet, but we’re watching for announcements, particularly about who’s writing it.

Director Paul King wrote the first two films, with Simon Farnaby co-writing the second. For the third film, Mark Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont wrote the script, and Dougal Wilson directed. Paul King and Simon Farnaby still contributed to the story for the third movie, though.

With Emily Mortimer now playing Mrs. Brown after taking over from Sally Hawkins, the next Paddington movie might require another cast change. Hugh Bonneville, who has played Mr. Brown throughout the series, has hinted that he probably won’t be back for a future film.

He explained to Saga Magazine that while he’s enjoyed the role, he feels it’s time to step down. He believes the part requires someone younger, but the show could easily continue with a different actor, as the focus is really on the character of the bear.

We likely will see Ben Whishaw return to voice Paddington, and the next film will probably feature well-known actors playing the villains, continuing the tradition of stars like Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, and Olivia Colman from past movies.

We’ll let you know as soon as any further developments come to light!
