The animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a huge hit, winning an Academy Award and inspiring a unique visual style that’s still popular today. Its success led to plans for a three-movie series, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse came out in 2023 as the first part of a two-part conclusion. Originally, the final movie, Beyond the Spider-Verse, was supposed to be released just a year later, resolving a dramatic cliffhanger where Miles Morales found himself in the wrong universe and his father’s life was in danger. However, production was delayed by the actors’ strike and the complicated animation process. Now, after three years, the wait is almost over, and Sony’s announcement at CinemaCon confirms the movie is still on track for a 2027 release.
At CinemaCon 2026, Sony showed a first look at footage from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, sharing it exclusively with attendees and releasing some new pictures online. The clip begins right after the end of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales facing off against another version of himself from another universe while trying to save his father, with only two days to do so. We also see Miguel O’Hara (voiced by Oscar Isaac) chasing Miles, and Gwen Stacy (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) trying to find him across different dimensions. Beyond the main story, the footage includes fun moments like Spider-Ham (voiced by John Mulaney) holding Peter B. Parker’s baby daughter, Mayday, and Spider-Noir (voiced by Nicolas Cage) lurking around. Most surprisingly, a shadowy figure that looks a lot like the Kingpin (voiced by Liev Schreiber) appears, hinting that the villain from Into the Spider-Verse will play a role in Miles’ story again.
The Spider-Verse Is Set for a Glorious Return

The four-year delay between the second and third Spider-Verse movies has hurt the series’ overall excitement. Across the Spider-Verse ended on a huge cliffhanger, and the longer fans have waited, the less invested many have become. Fortunately, Sony recognizes this issue and is working on a plan to regain audience interest that goes beyond simply announcing a release date.
I’m so excited for more Spider-Verse content! Before Beyond the Spider-Verse hits theaters, we’re getting a live-action Spider-Noir series with Nicolas Cage returning as the character. It’s coming to MGM+ on May 25th and Prime Video a couple of days later on May 27th. What’s really cool is it’s filmed in both black and white and color! This show feels like a great way to expand the Spider-Verse and prove it can work in different kinds of formats. Plus, the sneak peek of Beyond the Spider-Verse shown at CinemaCon was amazing – it confirmed the movie is still planned for 2027, we’ll definitely see our favorite Spider-People again, and it even hinted that Kingpin, who was awesome in Into the Spider-Verse, will be back!
Okay, so the animated Spider-Verse is really becoming its own thing, and I’m here for it. We’re hearing that Spider-Punk – you know, Daniel Kaluuya’s incredibly cool character from Across the Spider-Verse – is getting his own movie. Plus, a dedicated Gwen Stacy project is also in the works. Honestly, after Sony’s recent struggles with things like Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter – let’s just say those didn’t exactly set the box office on fire – leaning heavily into the success of Spider-Verse to launch new ideas feels like a really smart move for them. It’s a much safer bet, and frankly, gives us more of what we already love.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 18, 2027.
