I’m still super excited for the full 1.0 version of Palworld, and it sounds like Pocketpair is getting close! John Buckley, who handles communication for the game, recently said we’ll have to be a little more patient. He knows everyone’s really wanting a release date, but he explained that they’re still working hard on it – basically, it’s not quite ready yet, but it’s cooking!
Last September, the team announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they were completely focused on finishing version 1.0 of Palworld and wouldn’t be sharing updates until it was ready. This was in response to a player asking if the team was still working on the game and when version 1.0 would be released. Buckley jokingly said that they’d give players a sneak peek – ‘smell it’ – when the update was almost finished, but they needed a little more time to complete it. He acknowledged fans were eager for the update, but it was still in development.
Regarding keeping the update details under wraps until the studio is ready to announce it, Buckley pointed out that players previously reacted similarly to Pocketpair with updates like Feybreak, criticizing the lack of communication.
He acknowledged the team’s excitement about the upcoming 1.0 release, but pointed out that they already have a solid plan for marketing and promoting the game.
It’s not surprising that the 1.0 update for Palworld is taking a while and the developers haven’t announced a release date yet, as the update will add a significant amount of new content. Pocketpair CEO Toshifumi Buckley mentioned at GDC last month that the update aims to offer something for all players.
The developer described survival crafting as a genre particularly popular on Steam, despite its ups and downs. They noted there are many excellent games in this category, but every player has a specific idea of what the perfect survival crafting experience should be. They hope Palworld 1.0 will be that game for everyone, offering a world players can truly get lost in. Ultimately, they believe Palworld will be the survival crafting game players have always dreamed of.
He added that details about version 1.0 are still confidential.
We have some surprises in store that players won’t expect, especially with the 1.0 release. It’s launching at an unusual time for players – you can continue with your current character if you wish, and we won’t be resetting anyone’s progress. However, we’ll suggest starting a new character, as the game will be significantly different from beginning to end. Basically, almost everything is being revamped.
Regarding future updates for Palworld after its full release, Buckley suggested it probably won’t follow the same path as No Man’s Sky. He believes Pocketpair, the game’s developer, will likely take a different approach to post-launch content.
Many dedicated fans are hoping Palworld will receive continuous, large-scale updates for years, similar to No Man’s Sky. However, the developers believe this is unlikely. While engine limitations play a role, they also point out that as a survival crafting game, Palworld could become overly complex and bloated if they simply keep adding more levels and content indefinitely.
Currently, Palworld is still accessible on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S as an Early Access title.
We received a message today asking for an update on Palworld 1.0 and when it will be released. As we announced last September, the whole team is currently focused on finishing 1.0, and we’ll share more details when it’s ready. We know everyone is eager to play the full version, but it’s still in development!

We’ll crack the oven open a little when it’s nearly done so you’ll smell it 👃

Look, I’ve seen this happen before with every big update – people were saying the same things before we launched early access, and with Sakurajima, and even with games like Feybreak and Terraria! It’s awesome everyone’s so hyped for the 1.0 release, but honestly, when it comes to how to get the word out and promote the game, I think we, as the devs, actually have a pretty solid plan. It’s a little frustrating, but we’ve got this! 😭
