One Of the Most Valuable Pokemon Cards Is Just a Year Old (& It’s Already Impossible to Find)

Generally, the oldest Pokemon cards hold their value best because fewer were originally printed, and even fewer have survived to today. These early cards, particularly the rare, ‘shadowless’ ones from the first print run, are likely to remain valuable as long as people continue to collect and trade Pokemon cards. While newer cards can become valuable, it’s unusual for recently released cards to reach prices like $10,000, especially if they haven’t been professionally graded. However, one card has recently defied this trend.

When a new Pokémon card set is released, the prices of its rarer cards often change a lot at first. It takes time to figure out how truly rare those cards are and how much collectors will pay for them. While even expensive cards from recent sets like Scarlet & Violet usually sell for around $400 raw, or up to $2,500 graded for a perfect Pikachu, one card released in March 2025 – a Mew ex – is already worth $10,000 ungraded, and its price is expected to stay high.

Rare Mew ex Card from 2025 Will Never Be Printed Again

The most valuable Pokémon trading cards are usually promotional cards – those not found in regular booster packs. Instead, they’re given out at events or included with certain products. Over time, cards exclusive to the Pokémon Center and those printed in very limited quantities have become highly sought-after collectibles. However, even with the recent surge in Pokémon card popularity and rarity, a specific Mew ex promotional card from the Scarlet & Violet set has commanded exceptionally high resale prices.

This rare Pokémon card is incredibly valuable because very few were ever made. It showcases beautiful artwork of the legendary Pokémon Mew and was only available in mainland China. From March to December 2025, fans had to complete a specific set of real-world challenges to even have a chance to win one. After completing the activities, they could enter a lottery for one of just 1510 Mew ex cards. The cards were given away in batches of 151 winners each month, a nod to the original 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region and Mew’s number in the Pokédex.

Only 1510 copies of this card featuring this artwork were ever made, making it incredibly rare. Even without professional grading, these cards are already selling for up to $10,000, according to PriceCharting. A perfect PSA 10 graded copy recently sold for as much as $26,000! This makes it one of the most valuable cards released so far in the Scarlet & Violet series, especially for collectors interested in cards not printed in English.

One of the most notable things about the Mew ex card is its consistent resale value since its release in 2025. Unlike many other cards that experience price swings, this Chinese Promo Mew ex has remained fairly stable, generally selling for around $10,000 USD even without grading. Graded versions show a similar trend, with minimal price changes since they became available. While this could shift in the future, any changes are more likely to be influenced by the broader Pokémon trading card market rather than the card’s own rarity.

If you’re a Mew fan, finding this particular card can be challenging. It won’t be reprinted and wasn’t available in regular booster packs, so you’ll have to buy it from someone who already owns it. Luckily, the English version of Scarlet & Violet 151 includes several other Mew cards that are much easier to find, like the shiny Mew ex Holofoil and promotional Mew cards released with the set in 2023.
