A sequel to the hit film Godzilla Minus One is coming to theaters worldwide later this year. Toho and GKIDS have just released the first trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero. Godzilla Minus One was made to celebrate 70 years of the Godzilla franchise and became the most successful film in the series, both financially and with critics. It wasn’t surprising, then, that Toho quickly announced they were working on another film.
I’m so excited! We’re finally getting a full trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, which is coming to theaters this fall! The best part? Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe – who were amazing in Godzilla Minus One – are both returning! You can check out the first trailer below, and get a taste of what’s in store!
Godzilla Minus Zero Reveals First Trailer During CinemaCon 2026
The new Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus Zero, will debut in Japan on November 3rd. Just three days later, on November 6th, it will be released in the United States and Canada by Toho and GKIDS. This is the closest release timeframe between Japan and North America for a Godzilla film ever, and it’s also the first Japanese production specifically filmed for IMAX. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their roles as Koichi Shikishima and Noriko Oishi, respectively, but details about the story are currently being kept secret.
The new Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus Zero, will take place in 1949, following the events of Godzilla Minus One. The story will continue to focus on the Shikishima family as they confront a new threat. Building on the fresh approach of Godzilla Minus One, future films will likely continue to explore new directions for the franchise. Importantly, this movie is scheduled to be released in Japan and North America around the same time, which is a significant improvement in distribution.
What to Know for Godzilla Minus Zero

Takashi Yamazaki, who directed, wrote, and handled the visual effects for Godzilla Minus One, is also returning to lead the next Godzilla film for Toho Studios. ROBOT is producing, with SHIROGUMI Inc. creating the visual effects. The movie will be shown in IMAX theaters globally, giving fans plenty to look forward to. Yamazaki recently began sharing specific details about the plot at CinemaCon 2026.
Good news for fans: Godzilla Minus One will be directly followed by Godzilla Minus Zero. There was some uncertainty about this, even with director Takashi Yamazaki returning, but it’s now confirmed. Now, we can start thinking about what will happen to the Shikishima family after the devastating events they experienced just a few years prior.
