Warner Bros. debuts teaser trailer for Clayface at CinemaCon

A preview of the Clayface character was shown at Caesars Palace, giving audiences a first look at actor Tom Rhys Harries in the role. The trailer begins with a disturbing image of the heavily disfigured character, with intense red eyes, lying in a hospital bed and clearly in pain. It appears the footage jumps between different points in the character’s life, showing Harries both before and after a shocking event that leaves him horribly scarred.

The teaser prominently features disturbing body horror. Witnesses describe the main character wearing a mask as his skin seems to peel away. At one point, his face visibly melts and changes shape like clay.

Peter Safran, a leader at DC Studios, presented a trailer for the Clayface movie, admitting most people aren’t familiar with the character. He predicted that will soon change, calling the upcoming film a “riveting horror thriller” planned for release around Halloween. Directed by James Watkins, the movie is now scheduled to premiere on October 23rd, emphasizing its intention to be a spooky, seasonal experience.

This project is DC Studios’ next major undertaking, following the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in June. The character, originally created in 1940 as an actor who became a villain, has long been a foe of Batman. This new version, which focuses on the character’s ability to shapeshift using clay, is being written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.

Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan join the cast. The film, produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn, and Peter Safran, aims to make Clayface a truly terrifying villain in the DC Universe, focusing on gruesome, physical horror rather than typical superhero tropes (according to Deadline).
