Paramount+’s #1 TV Show Confirms How Much Its Biggest Franchise Has Changed After 8 Years

Paramount+ has become known for one major franchise, but it offers much more than just that. While the platform features a good selection of classic, licensed shows and movies – including titles like Frasier, Happy Days, Twin Peaks, and The Affair – it also produces a growing number of original series such as Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, School Spirits, MobLand, and Criminal Minds: Evolution. Plus, Paramount+ is the only place to stream episodes of current CBS shows like NCIS, Matlock, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Tracker, and Ghosts the day after they air on television.

Despite many choices for viewers, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is Paramount+’s biggest success. While his other Western-themed shows like Landman, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown are also popular, the world of Yellowstone is much larger and has captured a wider audience. Beyond the original series, which first aired on Paramount Network, it spawned successful spin-offs like 1883, starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and 1923, with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Even though Yellowstone will conclude after five seasons in 2025, the story will continue through new shows starting in 2026.

Marshals Explores A Brand New Frontier For Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone Franchise

CBS is expanding the world of Yellowstone with Marshals, a new series bringing back Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton. This show takes a different direction than the original Yellowstone, marking a significant step for the franchise. Set about a year after the events of Yellowstone concluded, Marshals follows Kayce as he navigates a new career path following a tragic loss. Unlike the ranch-focused drama of its predecessor, Marshals is a crime procedural, centering on Kayce’s work pursuing various criminals. As the first series created for a major network within this universe, it will also have a longer season than other shows by creator Taylor Sheridan.

The new show Marshals demonstrates how much the Yellowstone universe has expanded since its beginning in 2018. Previous spinoffs, like 1883 and 1923, focused on the Dutton family’s history in Montana during specific time periods. Originally, Lawmen: Bass Reeves was also intended as a period drama within the Yellowstone franchise, but it ultimately became its own independent series. Marshals is the first Yellowstone offshoot that doesn’t take place in the past.

With the new series Marshals, the Yellowstone universe is expanding in a fresh direction. Unlike previous spinoffs that closely followed the storylines of the original show, Marshals gives Kayce and his team more freedom to develop their own adventures. This opens the door for more creative and innovative storytelling, which is really promising.

Marshals Is An Indication Of What The Future Of Yellowstone Looks Like

The new show Marshals is just the first of many planned expansions of the Yellowstone universe. It quickly became a hit after its March 2026 debut, even challenging Justin Hartley’s Tracker in the ratings. This success paves the way for more sequel series, and Taylor Sheridan is already developing another show focused on Beth, one of John Dutton III’s children. Kelly Reilly will return as Beth, alongside Cole Hauser as Rip, in Dutton Ranch, set to premiere in May. Unlike Marshals, this new series was directly foreshadowed in the final season of Yellowstone, as Beth and Rip moved to a new ranch that will serve as the setting for their story.

Another modern spin-off series is also in the works, though it won’t continue the story directly from Marshals or Dutton Ranch. Called 6666, this show was announced before the other spin-offs were confirmed and is currently in development. It will be set on the famous Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, showing the daily life of the ranch and the world of competitive horse breeding. While the project hasn’t seen much progress recently, it’s still possible and could add another show to the growing list of Yellowstone spin-offs on Paramount+.
