From Season 4 Is Scarier, Twistier, and Higher Stakes Than Ever (Review)

The term “cult classic” is often overused, but it genuinely fits the sci-fi horror series From. Over three seasons, this MGM+ show has remained a hidden gem, consistently delivering a complex, scary, and well-made mystery that improves with each season. It’s a show that’s easy for new viewers to pick up, but incredibly rewarding for those who’ve followed it from the beginning, as everything is cleverly connected. Now, nearly two years after a cliffhanger ending to Season 3, From returns for Season 4 with an even more intricate puzzle.

Season 4 of From continues the story immediately after the previous season’s cliffhanger. With Jim Matthews’ death at the hands of the Man in Yellow and the introduction of time travel through Julie, Tabitha and Jade have uncovered secrets about their pasts and how they relate to the town. It seems like the trapped residents of Fromville might finally be close to understanding the mystery surrounding them, but it quickly becomes clear that someone – or something – is working to stop them from finding answers.

Okay, so I’ve seen the first six episodes, and things are getting really interesting. A new person shows up in town, and with them come some unsettling revelations. But these aren’t the kind of discoveries that make things better – they actually make the situation way more terrifying and complicated. It’s a smart shift in the show’s tension. For a while, From was mostly about what was coming at the town, but Season 4 flips that. The real danger isn’t the monsters outside, it’s what’s happening to the people living there – they’re starting to unravel, and that’s where the horror really comes from.

From Season 4 Deepens the Mystery and Ups the Stakes (But Stumbles Occasionally in Pacing)

What makes the series From so compelling is how much the creators respect and understand its dedicated fanbase. Season 4 especially delivers on long-running mysteries, connecting events all the way back to the very first episode. While many shows weave together past storylines, From Season 4 feels particularly intentional and well-planned in its approach. The creators even provided a list of episodes to rewatch before the new season, and trust me, it’s worth doing! Season 4 masterfully brings together seemingly unrelated plot points from earlier seasons, rewarding viewers who have been following the show from the beginning.

Season 4 leans heavily into psychological horror – and the Man in Yellow is just the start of it. The writers really excel at building and connecting the show’s mythology, to the point where they could teach a class on storytelling. However, the season isn’t perfect. The pacing feels off at times, with certain scenes dragging on unnecessarily to delay answers. Around the middle of the season, the plot occasionally feels repetitive, seemingly to stretch out the length. While the consistently strong acting makes spending time with the characters enjoyable, the story would benefit from a more consistent forward momentum.

Season 4 Is the Most Terrifying Season Yet

I have to say, Season 4 really got to me. It’s easily the scariest one so far, not with jump scares, but with how it slowly unravels everything. You start to see the tensions that have been building within the community finally explode, and it’s agonizing to watch. The more the characters search for answers, the more desperate—and distrustful—they become, and people start turning on each other in really unsettling ways. It’s a tough watch, seeing these people lose their grip, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I was especially blown away by the performances this season, particularly Pegah Ghafoori as Fatima – she was both heartbreaking and genuinely chilling. Julia Doyle as Sofia also really stood out to me; she delivered a fantastic performance.

Season 4 of From is the strongest season of this already gripping series. The central mystery deepens in fascinating ways, maintaining both its intensity and high quality. The characters develop realistically, making major plot twists genuinely shocking and emotionally impactful. Even the new elements of the show’s mythology, which could have felt silly, are instead terrifyingly believable. This season balances shocking reveals with genuine emotional weight, solidifying From‘s place as one of the best shows on TV.

From Season 4 debuts April 19th on MGM+. New episodes arrive weekly through June 21st.
