With the rise of streaming, viewers have become used to waiting a long time for new seasons of their favorite shows. That’s why shows like “Daredevil: Born Again” and “The Pitt” are getting attention for promising to release episodes every year, even though many shows now take two years or more between seasons. These delays aren’t always avoidable – things like the actors’ strike in 2023 caused many production setbacks. Sometimes, delays happen because of problems behind the scenes that force changes to the show’s story, as seen with the popular fantasy series “Good Omens” on Prime Video.
Prime Video announced that the final episode of Good Omens, a 90-minute special, will premiere on Wednesday, May 13th. Along with the announcement, a new trailer offered a glimpse of how the series will conclude the story based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel. The trailer comes nearly three years after Season 2 ended and follows some disagreements with Gaiman himself, leaving fans wondering if the finale will live up to expectations and be a satisfying ending.
Good Omens Series Finale Trailer Reveals The End
The final season of Good Omens will continue the story after Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) chose to return to Heaven, leaving his friendship with Crowley (David Tennant) strained. Aziraphale is now in charge of the Second Coming, which creates a whole new set of complications – including losing track of Jesus. This will force Aziraphale and Crowley to address their problems, work together, and battle both their inner struggles and actual demons.
The final episode of Good Omens will feature the return of familiar faces including David Tennant and Michael Sheen, along with Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, Paul Chahidi, Quelin Sepulveda, and Sir Derek Jacobi. New to the cast is Bilal Hasna, and Rachel Talalay will direct the episode.
Good Omens was originally set to return for a full season, but those plans changed after allegations of sexual assault against Neil Gaiman came to light. As a result, Gaiman left the show, and the season was shortened. Instead of six episodes, the story will now be wrapped up in a 90-minute movie.
Ever since the book Good Omens was first published in 1990, there have been discussions about adapting it for the screen. Plans for follow-up novels were put aside after Terry Pratchett’s passing. Now, because of recent accusations against Neil Gaiman – though no charges were filed, and a lawsuit was dismissed with the courts suggesting the case be pursued in New Zealand – some fans might not want to see how the story concludes, even though Gaiman’s role is limited. It’s also quite possible that the upcoming season 3 of Good Omens could be the last adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s work for a while, or even permanently.
