Khloe Kardashian Calls Out Lamar Odom’s Claim Married Her for Fame

Khloe Kardashian isn’t holding back any longer.

Following Lamar Odom’s denial of claims made in the Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, Khloé Kardashian publicly challenged her former husband about it.

On her podcast, Khloe in Wonder Land, Khloe confronted Lamar, saying he admitted on camera that he married her to become famous. She also shared that she’d seen TikTok videos questioning the authenticity of their relationship, with people wondering if their love was genuine. One video asked if anyone else felt the same way, leading Khloe to question if she’d been fooled.

Khloe raised her hand to show she agreed, admitting she’d felt the same way about their seven years of marriage.

She continued, saying that people were accusing her of only being used for attention. She felt hurt and foolish, explaining she’d put a lot of effort into the documentary as a kindness, and wasn’t receiving any payment for it.

During a recent podcast episode, Khloe – along with her close friend Malika Haqq – admitted she was initially unsure about taking part in the project. She wanted to be certain it would show Lamar in a good light.

She explained that she wanted to approach the situation carefully and ensure a good outcome. She recalled saying she hoped the coverage would be positive, as the person involved had already dealt with enough hardship and she wanted to shift the focus to something more uplifting.

Khloe also pointed out that she’s not a producer on the doc, so she didn’t have involvement in the post-production side.

She explained what bothered her most: people assume she enjoys constantly discussing a painful experience. She clarified that it’s actually re-traumatizing to have to repeatedly talk about difficult and unpleasant events from her past, and she definitely doesn’t seek it out.

After the documentary came out, and Lamar did interviews to promote it, Khloe became upset with some of the things he suggested—specifically, his claim that she overstated how much she helped save his life after his near-fatal overdose in 2015.

She explained she was frustrated because she had completed the work she did for Lamar, and wanted to move on. However, Lamar was now doing interviews and publicly disputing her account, suggesting she was dishonest and claiming he didn’t receive her help. She felt he was trying to discredit her after she’d finished her part.

She went on to say she wasn’t looking for compliments, but she wouldn’t tolerate being disrespected or treated poorly now that people were reacting to the situation and forming opinions.

According to a source familiar with the situation, Lamar participated in interviews for the documentary simply to fulfill his contractual obligations, and not because he wanted to publicly discuss sensitive and private parts of his past. This information was shared with TopMob News on April 15th.

The statement also noted that he has consistently recognized Khloé’s support during a very difficult time in his life. He’s often stated that she was there for him, cared for him, and significantly helped him get better.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, and let me tell you, there are some truly shocking revelations. If you’re curious to learn more about the biggest surprises from the documentary, keep reading – I’m going to break it all down for you.

Oh my gosh, I remember exactly how Khloe and Lamar met! It was back in 2009, and it’s honestly the cutest story ever. Khloe was sweet enough to host a party for Ron Artest – you know, the Lakers player who later changed his name to Metta World Peace? – and that’s where she met him. It was fate, I’m telling you! Absolutely fate!

Khloe admitted in the Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom that she didn’t know Lamar Odom before the party she attended. She explained she likely took the job because her brother, Rob Kardashian, a big Lakers fan, was really enthusiastic about it.

Lamar, recently crowned a champion with the Lakers, revealed in the documentary that he also didn’t recognize Khloe at first. He confessed that he initially tried to hook up with her, but she made it clear that wasn’t the vibe of the party. They connected the next day, and that quickly led to a continuing relationship.

Just weeks after they first met, he proposed with a nine-carat diamond ring. They then married on September 27, 2009, only a month after their initial meeting.

I’ve always thought of myself as someone pretty grounded, but honestly, I get why people were so quick to question our relationship. It’s like, we were planning a wedding in just a month! Looking back, it was crazy fast, and I totally understand the skepticism.

As Lamar put it, “You gotta have a gut feeling” and “some big balls.”

Lamar and his former fiancée, Liza Morales, have two children together: a daughter named Destiny Odom and a son, Lamar “L.J.” Odom Jr. They were high school sweethearts in Queens, New York, but their relationship ended after the tragic loss of their 6-month-old son, Jayden, who died of SIDS on June 29, 2006.

In her memoir, Untold, Liza wrote that when Lamar texted her to say he was marrying Khloe, her first thought was that he must be kidding.

Lamar explained in his statement that people attempted to dissuade him from getting married. He also said the mother of his children prevented their attendance at his wedding.

L.J. later enjoyed receiving Christmas presents from Khloe and her mother, Kris Jenner. However, at the time, he admitted he hadn’t even met Kris and didn’t think his father had told him he was marrying her, as he shared in the documentary.

Destiny, who is 27, explained in the document that if someone wants a large, public wedding with lots of cameras, that’s perfectly fine and their choice.

The reality show Khloe & Lamar first aired on April 10, 2011, on TopMob. It felt like a logical extension of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which had already led to other spin-offs like Khloe & Kourtney Take Miami and Kourtney & Kim Take New York.

But that was not Khloe’s idea, according to the now 41-year-old.

According to the documentary, the show Khloe & Lamar was largely driven by Lamar. Khloe felt stretched too thin at the time and worried a new show could harm the family’s existing brand, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She pointed out that he had a thriving career with the Lakers and questioned if he really wanted to take on another project.

Khloé explained that filming Keeping Up With The Kardashians let her move around and maintain some privacy, so she was initially a bit hesitant about a show that would be constantly filming inside her home. However, she wanted to support her partner, who was very enthusiastic about the idea.

Destiny said of her dad, “He did love Khloe, but he’d wanted to be on reality TV for a long time.”

As Lamar explained in the document, he agreed to participate if he could marry his partner, saying, ‘If I’m marrying you, I want to be involved in everything too.’

I’ll never forget when the Lakers won their second championship in a row back in 2010. Liza shared in the documentary that her kids were so excited, they actually skipped school to be at the victory parade downtown in L.A.! It was just an incredible scene, and you could tell how much it meant to everyone.

When they arrived at his home, they received a call saying he wasn’t responding when they knocked, even though they knew he was inside.

“We were knocking on the door and there was nothing,” Destiny said, “it was just silence.”

Liza mentioned that Lamar’s friend called, explaining he wasn’t feeling up to attending the parade after a night out and didn’t want his kids to see him that way. Although he was hesitant, his trainer insisted he participate, and his children ultimately watched him from home on television.

“They were absolutely heartbroken,” Liza shared. Destiny added that being rejected by a parent is incredibly painful and can really hinder someone’s growth. “There are certain moments you just can’t shake,” she said. “Now it makes sense – I found out he was struggling with partying and substance use at the time.”

Khloe admitted that, surprisingly, Lamar’s early cocaine use seemed handled responsibly, according to the documentary.

She remembered he went missing about two years after they started, sometime in June. She genuinely worried something bad had happened to him.

Khloe explained that he was struggling because June is the anniversary of Jayden’s death. She said it was then she realized, ‘This is something completely new and difficult for me – I’m in a really tough spot and I don’t know how to handle it.’

Lamar, who is now 46, explained in the documentary that he believes he’s forgotten many stories from that period of his life due to his circumstances at the time.

He paused, then said, “It’s unbelievable to even consider cheating on my wife. How messed up would someone have to be? To marry someone on television and then be unfaithful?”

Khloe remembered the night she found out Lamar was being unfaithful. She’d had her doubts, but never any proof, until a woman called and bluntly told her, “I’ve been having an affair with your husband. He’s a mess, constantly asking for money and drugs, and I’m done with it. Can you please come get him?”

Khloe remembered that Lamar would often leave rehab – sometimes for a full 12 hours or even two days – and then go on a drug-fueled spree. She described desperately searching for him in back alleys and cheap motels, finding evidence of his drug use like pieces of aluminum foil or spoons, and seeing the mess he’d leave behind.

I remember her telling me she constantly had to fix things after him, especially when we traveled. She’d rush around cleaning hotel rooms, terrified that someone would notice and talk to the press. Looking back, I realize I just blindly helped her, feeling like it was my duty to keep everything under control and shield him from the consequences. I didn’t understand then that I was actually helping him avoid responsibility, but I felt so compelled to protect him.

Lamar’s drug use became extremely heavy after he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in December 2011, according to her.

The following summer, Lamar was traded back to the L.A. Clippers, the team that originally drafted him in 1999.

After that season ended, things got so much worse. He just…fell apart again, and started doing all sorts of drugs. It was terrifying. He overdosed multiple times, and I actually had to help him – pumping his stomach, everything – but we kept it all secret. We even tried to set up detox at home, doing absolutely everything we could to help him get better, but it was just…so much.

Khloe explained that an intervention specialist advised her to tell Lamar he had a choice: get three months of rehab, or she would file for divorce.

Khloe remembered everyone thinking her husband would never admit he wanted a divorce. When they staged an intervention and she spoke to him, he surprisingly said, ‘Fine, I just want my passport, and let’s just get this divorce over with.’

In the documentary, Lamar explained that right after finalizing his divorce in 2015, he felt motivated to be productive, but immediately realized he was without cocaine, which frustrated him.

Living in Las Vegas at the time, he ended up at the Love Ranch, a legal brothel in Crystal, Nev.

Lamar pointed out how amazing it is to consider that even a small choice can have a huge impact, not just on your own life, but on the lives of those you care about most.

On October 13, 2015, Lamar was discovered unconscious at the Love Ranch. According to the Nye County sheriff, witnesses reported he had used cocaine in the days leading up to the incident and had taken ten doses of an erectile dysfunction drug since arriving at the ranch.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always said honesty is key, and Lamar Odom recently shared some really personal details with Sports Illustrated. He explained that while tests after the incident did show traces of cocaine in his system, he hadn’t established a source for it in Vegas yet. He specifically clarified he didn’t use cocaine on the night or day in question – it was something that showed up after the fact.

In an interview with USA Today, he firmly denied bringing cocaine to the brothel. He explained he was upset after signing divorce papers and had briefly imagined going to the brothel with drugs, but that didn’t happen. He said he was frustrated that his expectation didn’t materialize.

Khloe said she simply screamed when her sister, Kim Kardashian, told her that Lamar had overdosed.

When Khloe arrived at the hospital, she said Lamar’s father, Joe Odom, who passed away in 2021, was prepared to remove him from life support. She told him, ‘I’m still his wife, so what do you need?’ Joe asked for a pair of Nike shoes, $100, and a hotel room for the night. He took what she offered and never returned.

Khloe explained that she was determined to give him every possible advantage in the fight. She ultimately relied on her own judgment more than anyone else involved.

She restricted visits, requiring her permission for anyone who wanted to come over.

Lamar was transported from Las Vegas to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and Khloe stayed at the hospital constantly, as she shared in Untold. She was by his side for around four months, visiting him every day.

After Lamar was released from the hospital in 2016, Khloe rented a house near hers for him and arranged for caregivers to look after him.

According to the court documents, Khloe said she walked in one day and immediately smelled crack cocaine. She found him smoking in the bedroom and reacted by punching him in the face.

She explained that he’d gotten a phone and seemed to be doing surprisingly well, leading her to realize he was manipulating her to maintain his current lifestyle. She told him he had until Monday to move out, stating she would no longer support him financially or have any further contact.

When Lamar and Khloe reunited in late 2024 after nine years apart, he told her he didn’t recall the events of the past, but also acknowledged that doesn’t mean they didn’t happen.

He used strong language to express his disbelief and anger that someone would offer him cocaine, given his recent experiences.

“I can depend on my family,” he reflected, “but most people leave you to f–king rot in the wind.”
