I’m so excited for a new anime coming this Summer! If you loved the mystery and historical setting of The Apothecary Diaries, you absolutely need to keep an eye out for this one. Everyone’s busy catching up with all the Spring 2024 anime, but there’s another wave coming in July! This series was originally supposed to come out in April, but it got pushed back – and honestly, the wait will be worth it!
The light novel series Though I Am an Inept Villainess was announced to be getting an anime adaptation a few years ago, and now fans have their first glimpse at the animated version. Inspired by historical Chinese dramas, the story centers around a clumsy villainess who finds herself in a surprising situation – a Freaky Fridaystyle body swap! You can watch the trailer for Though I Am an Inept Villainess* below.
What to Know for Though I Am an Inept Villainess Anime
The anime series Though I Am an Inept Villainess is scheduled to premiere in July as part of the Summer 2024 anime season, but an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. Fans in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS will be able to stream the series on Crunchyroll at the same time as its release in Japan. The animation is being handled by Dogo Kobo, the studio known for popular anime like Oshi no Ko and Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian.
Mitsue Yamazaki will direct the anime adaptation of Though I Am an Inept Villainess, with Doga Kobo handling the animation. Yoshihoko Nakamura is in charge of the series’ composition, Ai Kukuchi is designing the characters, and Yukari Hashimoto will compose the music. The voice actors include Manaka Iwami as Kou Reirin, Natsumi Kawaida as Shu Keigetsu, Makoto Furukawa as Ei Gyoumei, Yuichiro Umehara as Shin-U, Hana Hishikawa as Leelee, and Farahnaz Nikray as Kou Tousetsu. While fans of The Apothecary Diaries might enjoy this new series, it will offer a completely different storyline.
What Is Though I Am an Inept Villainess About?
The anime Though I Am an Inept Villainess shares a similar visual style and setting with The Apothecary Diaries, both being inspired by ancient China. The story centers around a group of young women competing for the Prince’s affection. When Keigetsu becomes envious of Reirin, who is gaining the most attention, she hatches a plan to take control of the situation. Through unexpected magic, the two swap bodies, leaving Reirin to face the consequences of Keigetsu’s actions and somehow survive her punishments.
If you enjoyed the power struggles and social maneuvering in The Apothecary Diaries, this anime seems to offer a similar experience, but with a magical setting. Given the huge success of The Apothecary Diaries – a third season and a movie are already planned – this new show has a strong chance of becoming just as popular.
